Here's a Republican talking point against Obamacare punctured. One of their favorites has been that you won't get to keep the coverage you have because your employer will feel so burdened under the crushing weight of Obamacare that they'll stop insuring you. Here's one more survey of businesses showing exactly the opposite.
The consulting firm [Towers-Watson] polled 512 companies that employed more than 1,000 workers each. These are companies that spend at least $5 million in health benefits annually. They were asked how likely it was that they would drop coverage in 2014 and send employers to the new health care exchanges being created to accommodate the law.
Not a single employer said that scenario was “very likely.” A mere 3 percent ranked it “somewhat likely.” The vast majority—77 percent said—it was “not likely” that they would stop offering health insurance.
Employers provide health insurance for their workers because it makes sense. It's the moral thing to do, but it's also the competitive thing to do. Businesses can attract and keep the best workers by providing good benefits, and those that can afford to do so, do. The Affordable Care Act hasn't changed that reality.
