UPDATE: Go to the bottom to UPDATE #3e to see the good we've done!!!
UPDATE #4: Notice to Kos members: Seems Van Duzer's pizza parlor is being inudated with orders. LOL This is great, but they're swamped now. Literally. So they'd much rather you donate directly to The Van Duzer Foundation. Let's keep the love flowing, folks, in the form of donations. I want to blow these GOP thugs out of the water with their stupid boycott.
Governor Charlie Crist isn't the only Republican under attack for supporting Barack Obama. Scott Van Duzer (Obama hug guy) is feeling the heat big-time now.
After reading in LieparDestin's MOST EXCELLENT diary about the disgusting Republican backlash against Van Duzer's pizza parlor, I posted the following comment yesterday:
Here's an idea! (12+ / 0-)
If these nuts are going to try and wreck his business, we should support it. Call his pizza place on any given day and buy a pizza for the local homeless shelter or the local Obama campaign office, or anyplace you can think of. The goal being to put money in this guy's pocket AND to spite the GOP loons.

A couple people responded and
one actually called and ordered something!!! So I did the same. Go below the squiggle for the details.
I live 6 states away, so unfortunately, I can't enjoy one of Scott's pizzas, but I called and asked them to send a large pepperoni to the local volunteer fire department. They had several, so I told them to pick one and call me back with the address.
The total came to $14.22.
You guys, the kid on the phone told me they ARE under attack and he thanked me profusely for my business.
If you can, please call and order something from these folks. There are numerous Fire Departments in their delivery area, as well as police departments. Look up and see if there are any senior centers, YMCAs, Blood drive centers, etc.
The key is to support this man's business and I say we try to keep this up until the storm dies. Maybe a week or so.

As a former Republican (well, technically I still am since I haven't bothered to change my party affiliation) I'm taking this attack personally. I consider myself a Moderate Independent who left before my brain was completely fried. It's not the Party of Lincoln anymore. It's the party of LOONS!
Since I got out, I've never felt better!
This year, I will be doing data entry for OFA. Last election, before I voted for Obama, I phone banked w/my then 17 year old daughter at my local OFA headquarters. She really enjoyed the experience. Me, not so much. LOL A few people on the phone cursed and screamed at me, especially when I revealed my party affiliation. I didn't want to tell anyone I was a Republican for Obama because I knew what I was in for. But the other volunteers assured me that it was a plus, so I kept at it and ended my shift on a high note. I had a lengthy conversation with a Republican and she really listened to me. Color me surprised. I guess by then I'd gotten more confident.
After that, I helped register my other daughter who was in college in another state and sent her the absentee ballot.
Today, both of my girls are over 18 and registered to vote as Independents (I've been diligent), and I plan to drive them to the polls myself. I'm still working on my son. Though he's not old enough to vote, I want him to be informed. He's a teenager and doesn't care about much of anything but himself, HOWEVER, I did manage to talk him into watching FLOTUS' speech. Unfortunately, he confided that the only reason he sat through it was because he thought she was "hot."
(insert eye roll)
I say all this to say again, that yeah, I'm taking this attack against Scott Van Duzer VERY personally. He, like me, realized the insanity in the GOP and voted for the best candidate and the best party.
Please call and support his business.

UPDATE: #2 -- This great comment from Kos user Quicklund
* [new] I tried to order a pizza for the local GOP HQ (0+ / 0-)
out of delivery bounds though.
On a serious note, the owners are asking we not place orders. Instead, we are asked to donate pizza-sized units of dough to the The Van Duzer Foundation
They appreciate the help, but when you get down to it, driving around a lot of pizzas causes a lotof busy work/burnt gasoline. And regular customers will get their orders late.
Great idea though! Got me to bite.
Don't panic

So call (772) 466-8303 and DONATE some dough! :-)

* [new] IMPORTANT COMMENT FOR SUPPORTERS (1+ / 0-)
You can donate DIRECTLY to The Van Duzer Foundation
The mission of the Van Duzer Foundation is to assist families and individuals in St. Lucie County Florida, who are experiencing financial and personal hardship brought about by unforeseen crisis or tragedy.
I just got off the phone with a sweet young woman who told me all about it when I called to order a pizza.
You can use paypal.
So let's show some love!

The hug made the NYT's front page.

UPDATE #3d: From Kos user LieparDestin, whose excellent diary started all this.
CBS and Huff Post have picked up on his being under attack as well. I have gotten quite a few messages from people saying they have donated. Dailykos rocks :)

UPDATE #3e: This in from Kos user marabout40:
their effort to ruin Scott's reputation (1+ / 0-)
on yelp is failing miserably:
The would be Yelp war between Obama lovers and detractors on Yelp seems to have turned into more of a massacre. For every one-star review bashing Big Apple Pizza on Yelp, there were about 60 five-star reviews singing its praises. (We counted.) In reality, the ratio is a little bit different since about 130 reviews were taken down -- most of them one-star reviews -- for violating Yelp's terms of service. It's still a pretty stark split, though, you have to admit. Not only does Van Nuzer's pizza place have the best rating in Fort Pierce. He's got the highest rated restaurant in the entire state of Florida. (Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa appears to be a distant second.)
