It was very brief, but toward the end of a story about the presidential campaign on NBC News tonight, Brian Williams raised the possibility of Romney committing himself to just one term...and David Gregory confirmed that he had spoken with Romney's folks.
Gregory's report said, essentially, that, Romney acknowledges that a lot of very unpopular actions and decisions would need to be made to balance the budget and that it would likely make him unpopular among conservatives, liberals and moderates.
It was then that Gregory said that Romney seemed to suggest he'd be okay with just one term to allow him to spend that kind of political capital toward that goal.
Now...as with all things Romney, there was no reported "promise" by Mittch-A-Sketch Romney that he'd get in there, get his hands dirty, balance the budget and get out after just one term.
However, it was odd that both Gregory and Williams reported this as though the Romney campaign was okay with it.
It sure sounds like a new tack for the Romney campaign to me. If it is, this certainly sounds like the latest in a series of "Hail Mary" attempts (i.e Paul Ryan, for instance).
