TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) — Libya's interim president has apologized to the United States for the attack on the U.S. consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi that killed the American ambassador and three of his staff.
Mohammed el-Megarif described the attack as "cowardly" and offered his condolences on the death of Ambassador Chris Stevens and the three other Americans. Speaking to reporters, he vowed to bring the culprits to justice and maintain his country's close relations with the United States.

The attack was terrible and the loss of life so sad and senseless.
We are not at war with Muslims or the Libyan people. The people who shot the rocket are responsible for the deaths, not Islam or Libya or their adherents or people.
Now more than ever, aren't you glad we have calm and experienced leadership in the White House? President Obama along with the help of Secretary Clinton and the entire Obama team will work to keep this nation safe and prevent more violence.
Last night, Mitt Romney revealed he is unfit to be President. People notice. When these crises come, people feel secure knowing that President Obama is in charge. He's had many 3 a.m. callls and passed all the tests. Romney failed his test as an American last night.

that the Libyans fought with the Americans against the rioters and that Libyans took the Ambassador's body to a hospital while also helping other Americans toi safety.
There was no mention of cheering crowds or bodies being paraded about.

Update II: From the comments:
Every Libyan I know has condemned this. (1+ / 0-)

And many are calling for a rally in downtown Tripoli to condemn the attack and extremism. As well as a call for Libyans in the DC area to join a candlelit vigil for the victims outside the White House.
I proudly supported the Libyan revolution, spent nearly every day of 2011 in communication with Libyans who were at every level of the revolution. While there are armed crazies in every society(we certainly are no exception) Libyans are not extremists. They fought for their own democracy and rights. They are our friends and will be there for us as we were there for them.

Update III: Saw the right wing lie elsewhere. Must be FoxNews and Drudge helping Romney in a disgusting last-distich effort to slime the President.
Clinton forcefully reminded viewers of her speech that the attack that killed Stevens was in no part the work of the Libyan government. "This was an attack by a small and savage group, not the people or government of Libya," she said. "Libyans carried Chris's body to the hospital and helped others to be rescued."
Clinton: Death of U.S. Ambassador 'Should Shock the Conscience' of Every Nation
Already, many Libyans have joined us in doing so, and this attack will not break the bonds between the United States and Libya. Libyan security personnel fought back against the attackers alongside Americans. Libyans helped some of our diplomats find safety, and they carried Ambassador Stevens’s body to the hospital, where we tragically learned that he had died.
