This is amazing news!
Do you know why Mitt Romney had a light campaign schedule last week?
Do you wonder why Mitt, using the supposed 60 million cash on hand advantage in August , hasn't saturated the airwaves as predicted?
Frankly, I expected at least a Romney 10 state barnstorming trip with 4-5 appearances a day following the conventions. I also expected 10+ Romney commercials a day.
Instead, Mitt has been out fundraising with his fat cat donors.
The answers for why are contained within this piece from the New York Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/...
"Mitt Romney has had a light campaign schedule lately. He held his first rally in five days on Wednesday night."
"One major reason appears to be that Mr. Romney’s campaign finances have been significantly less robust than recent headlines would suggest. Much of the more than $300 million the campaign reported raising this summer is earmarked for the Republican National Committee, state Republican organizations and Congressional races, limiting the money Mr. Romney’s own campaign has to spend."
"A closer look at Mr. Romney’s own filings revealed that Mr. Obama, while trailing in overall party fund-raising, was pulling far more money than Mr. Romney into his campaign account"
" According to a review of spending figures provided by a group that tracks political advertising, from Sept. 10 through Sept. 24, Mr. Romney and his allies reserved $3.7 million in advertising time in Ohio. That compared with $5.2 million for Mr. Obama and his allies."
Now, keep in mind the article goes into Romney's advantage in SuperPac spending on his behalf. This will continue to benefit Romney.
The bottom line, Romney has been neither on the campaign trail, nor able to outspend President Obama in many key states. This a good news for Obama. I believe the lack of
campaign appearances has limited his ability to respond to his recent video and Libya kerfuffles.
Does this mean a Republican concerted effort to pool funds towards the down ticket races? It looks like it to me. Has Romney given up on himself?
