Corn dogs, cotton candy, funnel cake, deep-fried batter-coated candy bars, deep-fried batter coated cheese and well... why not just take a cube of butter, batter dip and fry that?
It's one of the many reasons we go to our local fairs.
I took an out of town guest to the Sausalito Art Fair more than a decade ago and I loved all the food. Bbq'd whole turkey legs that you walked around with while browsing the numerous art vendor booths. A mobile King Henry VIII. I had a corn on the cob in waiting, also.
We all have our state and county fairs which are very typical with the "squeee" baby pig races and cute, cute petting zoos along with the choo-choo train rides and ferris wheels de rigueur.
But, the best fair I've ever been to is the Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco, which is currently going on here.
Another year, this same friend we took to the tame Sausalito Art Fair, was in town the end of September. He loves to shop so we headed into Union Square. While on Market Street we noticed numerous groups of men walking wearing butt-less black leather chaps. We quickly deduced that there was an event going on. Further interviews pointed us to a short walk down 5th to Folsom Street that would completely answer our questions.
It was an amazing celebration of BDSM and leather subculture in a street fair. Folsom is blocked off for several blocks and a massive party is held. Photos not for the faint of heart can be had here. As you can see it's a great place to, um, hang out.
I loved walking through the fair. Nodding and winking to big welcoming grins and other big things. ;) My cousin from Utah is on vacation here to attend the fair this year. He's got his leather shorts all ready to ROCK. The main festival is today.
Enjoy San Francisco, enjoy!
This is the tame poster from 2010!
What kinds of local fairs do you have? Do you have any that can compete with ours? Do you attend your local fairs?
