The title of this Charles Blow New York Times column comes from the final line of this superb column:
If Obama doesn’t slip up, the next 40 days or so will be one long, dark night for Mitt Romney.
while
this diary by xaxner mentions the Blow column (and is worth reading for the comment xaxner wrote and crossposted here) I think the Blow column deserves more attention, and was surprised not to see it featured in the Pundit Roundup.
It is full of powerful observations, often quite pithy.
Not only does it end with punch, but note the very first sentence:
Mitt Romney is losing badly. And he has only himself to blame.
Or perhaps you will prefer his dismantling of the recent "theory" about the polls showing Romney's troubles as "skewed" -
This is just an extension of the Republican war on facts. If you find a truth disagreeable, simply deny it. Call it corrupt. Suggest that it is little more than one side of a story — an opinionated, biased one — and insist that there is another explanation. The base will buy it.
Let’s just call this Operation Ostrich.
The real problem that has caused this very real turn in the polls has another name: Willard Mitt Romney.
Operation Ostrich - now that has bite!
Please keep reading.
Charles M. Blow has increasingly become a must-read. Fortunately it is still possible to get to his columns without having to worry about having a Times subscription or hitting your maximum of free articles (10) per month. You can sign up for a daily email from the paper, the links for which do NOT count against your maximum, or you can find the title and get to it through an online search.
Blow can cram so much into a column. He hits the issue of the most recent release of Romney tapes by Mother Jones and describes the releases as "dropping these Romney secret recordings with the frequency of hip-hop mix tapes."
There is more.
I am pushing fair use.
Read the column.
Pass it on.
