From TPM, rAYN was in his Happy Place this morning (i.e. FoxSpews) doing his best Kevin Bacon-in-Animal House imitation ("Remain calm! All is well!"), but he slipped in something that should make anyone who's hated the last four years of gridlock go cold with apprehension. Go below the Socialist beignet to see the money quote-in-question.
Ryan did say that the Obama administration's reaction was slow and that there was need for an investigation.
And there it is, folks: What we're going to be dealing with for at least the next two years if the GOPhers hold the House. It's not just going to be Speaker of the House Eric Cantor snarkily saying, "No, no, no" and finding new and different ways to de-fund Obamacare. rAYN just let slip what will be the motivation for a witchhunt that's going to make Darrell Issa's Fast & Furious obsession look like a Farrelly Brothers film.
And as we all know, some of the hardier Teahadists have already called for impeaching Obama because Obamacare violates the Constitution as they understand it (i.e. The 2nd amendment, the 10th amendment, and a lot of liberal gobbledygook about "illegal search and seizure"). An "investigation" into the Libya attacks gives them multiple excuses... uhh, reasons for someone like Loony Louie Gohmert to get this party started. If we don't flip at least 40 seats (to offset Blue Dogs and GOPher takeovers), a House vote sends this idiocy right to the Senate, which will have to consider it regardless of the charges' merits. And that means that, not only does nothing get done on both sides of Congress, but we get to go to the circus again and watch John Roberts model Bill Rehnquist's "special robe" while Rand Paul starts his 2016 Presidential campaign.
Am I overreacting? Possibly, but I doubt it. McConnell and Boehner have both made it clear there will be no deal-making or compromise if Obama wins but the GOPhers hold the House and/or take back the Senate. But that's just the leadership talking; the Teahadist section of the House won't be satisfied with that. They'll want the pound of flesh they couldn't get because those skewed polls made people vote for Obama. If they can't get it one way, they'll damn sure try it another way. And if we don't GOTV -- not just for Obama, but for any down-ticket race that's even remotely competitive -- that is what's going to happen.
However, in the words of the once-funny Dennis Miller, "That's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
UPDATE:
Title changed in reaction to some of the comments. Yes, it is important for Obama to win, whether he does it close or leaves nothing of Robme but a grease spot. It's what happens AFTER that win that matters! And if all that is amounts to more of the same stalemate, the future does not look good -- for the economy, for Obamacare, for overturning Citizens United, or for simply getting shit done!
