While I think it's great that the unemployment rate dropped below 8% in September, I think we should continue to remember the long-term unemployed.
President Obama has successfully brought this nation out of the greatest financial catastrophe since Republicans brought us the Great Depression in the late 1920s. For that alone, he deserves to be re-elected.
But he also deserves re-election because his plan to restore America is better than Mitt Romney's. The Romney-Ryan plan will eliminate Medicare as we know it and replace it with a voucher program. He will gut education funding, continue to give big fat wet kisses to his corporate puppetmasters, and deregulate the same Wall Street firms that got us in this mess to begin with.
The fact is, real unemployment is higher (perhaps higher than 14.7%, which BLS U6 numbers suggest). This economy is getting better but we still need to shore up housing.
In other words, we need more and better Democrats in Congress and we need to re-elect President Obama.
