From The Guardian:

Film producer Harvey Weinstein may prove to be the secret weapon of the Barack Obama re-election campaign thanks to a film about the killing of Osama Bin Laden that is set to air on US TV just 48 hours before polling day.

Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden is the first high-profile dramatisation of the attack on the al-Qaida leader's Pakistan hide-out. The incident, in May 2011, was widely regarded as a coup for the Obama administration, following former President Bush's failed seven-year attempt to catch Bin Laden "dead or alive".

Produced by the Weinstein Company, the film will be broadcast on the National Geographic Channel on Sunday 4 November. "While some of the characterisations have been dramatised for creative reasons, the core story is an accurate portrayal of an event that ended the longest manhunt in American history," the channel said in a statement.

The kicker is that The National Geographic Channel is owned by News Corp., ergo it is controlled by Rupert Murdoch!

From Wikipedia's entry on NatGeo TV:

National Geographic Channel, also commercially abbreviated and trademarked as Nat Geo, is an American subscription channel, that airs non-fiction television programs produced by the National Geographic Society. Like History and the Discovery Channel, the channel features documentaries with factual content involving nature, science, culture, and history. The channel is owned primarily by Fox Cable Networks, a division of News Corporation.

Nice FU to Mittens, I'd say. I don't think Rupert has ever liked him very much.

But more likely, IMO, this is Rupert's way of trying to stay out of jail. Rupert surely knows that the U.S. Justice Department is building one or more Foreign Corrupt Practices Act cases against him. He seems dead to rights on a myriad of possible charges.

Rupert also loves to play king maker. He'll even be a booster for a supposed Lefty like Tony Blair, as long as he can take credit for his ascension.

Shorter Rupert: "Mister President, you wouldn't indict someone who gave you such a tremendous leg up toward re-election, would you? Come on, mate -- no 'ard feelings, eh?"

So satisfying to see Rupert "Power-Mad" Murdoch reduced to obsequious attempts to curry favor with an administration that will probably not show much mercy during a second term. Heehee Hahahahahahahaha :)

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
