Orange Squiggle of Down-Ticket Power

EDR compiles, describes and links election related diaries for down-ticket races through the closing months of election seasons. Down-ticket means any non-Presidential race.

This group was formed by the producers of a front page diary series that rescued election related diaries in 2006, 2008 and 2010. 2012 marks the first election since Daily Kos was born that there is blog devoted to election coverage - Daily Kos Elections.
Election Diary Rescue is proud to be a part of this project.

EDR chronicles the passion, power and effectiveness of political engagement and shines a light on candidates and issues that might be missed during an action-packed election cycle. It gives quick access to races, hopefully inspires people to write about contests that interest them, and has become an archive for thousands of election related diaries over the years.
The Diary List
for this project, founded by sidinny, links all the rescued diaries since 2006.

Format, Tag, Schedule

Diarists can help the EDR mining team by identifying the race in the diary title, for example: (FL-14) or (GA-Gov) or (NY-Sen). Using the "Elections" tag is also helpful. New this year, you can write your first sentence or two as the synopsis you would like to see in the EDR description.

EDR's schedule for mining diaries is noon to noon. Our publishing schedule is in the evening. That means for example if you post your diary at 12:00 pm (noon) on Wednesday, we will include it in the EDR list in Thursday evening's post. If you publish your diary at 11:59 am on Thursday, it will be in the diary collection for Thursday evening as well.

[GA-10] Sign Petition to remove Rep. Paul Broun from the US House Science Committee by WayBeyondSoccerMom - Rep. Paul Broun's (R-Wacko) recent ignorant remarks about science and evolution leads diarist to urge us to sign a petition at change.org to have Paul Broun removed from the US House Science Committee (AKA House Committee on Science, Space and Technology). Broun is running unopposed.

[MN-06] Bachmann update: let's bomb Pakistan by Bill Prendergast - Michele Bachmann (R) is still crazy. Jim Graves (D) is her opponent.

[PA-06] PA-6: Manan Trivedi (D) Needs To Win If Democrats Want To Retake The House by poopdogcomedy - Jim Gerlach (R) of Pennsylvania's 6th District in 2002 and was considered a moderate. Then he changed to echo Tea Party absurdities, needs to lose to Democratic challenger Manan Trevedi. Charts, graphs and videos.

[PA-06] Tomorrow, Action Summit for Manan Trivedi by BooMan23 - This diarist not only backs up why Manan Trivedi is the best choice for PA-06, they also include what we can do to help this campaign and the role Democracy for America plays in the campaigns they support. The "tomorrow" is today, by the way.

[WI-01] WI-01 Paul Ryans New Medicare Ad + First John Doe Trial Starts (UPDATED: Scott Walker to Testify) by Puddytat - Ryan (R) has plenty of money to spend running ads against Rob Zerban (D).

State:

[AR-St. House-District 63] AR Republican Advocates Stoning Rebellious Children To Death, Per Deuteronomy by Troutfishing - Diarist highlights a controversial book written by Republican candidate for the Arkansas Legislature Charlie Fuqua. In his e-book Fuqua says that rebellious children should executed in accordance with Deuteronomy 21:18-21.

[AR-St. House-District 63] Kill your rebellious children, seriously by Steveningen - Charlie Fuqua is an Arkansas Republican candidate running for a seat on the Arkansas House. And he is 100% certifiably, undeniably and reliably out of his friggin' mind.

[AR-St. House-District 63] Republican AR House candidate calls for death penalty for "rebellious children" by Chrislove - Charlie Fuqua, a GOP candidate running for the Arkansas House of Representatives, pronounced in his new book that all Muslims should be deported to take care of the "Muslim problem." This, in addition to a book by Arkansas State Representative Jon Hubbard which called slavery a "blessing in disguise" for African Americans, has thrown the state GOP into a bit of disarray.

[Maricopa County-Sheriff] Arizona Republic Newspaper Endorses Penzone over Sheriff Joe! by Ian S - On the heels of a series of articles detailing the abuses of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the Arizona Republic endorses his opponent, Democrat Paul Penzone.

Various:

[CA-Var] Brian Bilbray and Carl DeMaio: San Diego’s Republican Shapeshifters by withthelidoff - If there’s one thing that’s been particularly consistent to campaigns of the far right in San Diego this fall, it’s the unusually desperate attempts to hide the real agenda from voters. It’s an almost impressive self-awareness from the top of the GOP that the party’s agenda has drifted well outside the mainstream.

[Var-Polling] Daily Kos Elections Polling Wrap: Did Obama weather the 'first debate' storm? by Steve Singiser - Over the weekend, the question on the minds of the community of political junkies was a simple one: had Mitt Romney's clear victory in the first debate, in the eyes of a majority of voters, actually translated into votes? In other words, could the debate have enough of an impact to recenter the race for the White House?

[Var] StephenCLE's Election Ratings - Oct 8 by StephenCLE - Diarist offers his overview of standings in the states for POTUS as well as various competitive Senate and House races. With projections.

Ballot Initiatives:

[CA-Prop 32] Prop. 32 campaign having trouble with the facts by cidelson - Prop. 32 is the November ballot measure pushed by the rightwing cabal that was behind two previous losing California initiatives to eliminate the influence of unions and working people in state politics. Nice round up on this Proposition.

[CA-Prop 32] Small Business Action Committee: The Latest Shady Front Group Throwing Millions Behind Prop 32 by California Labor - The deceptively named “Stop Special Interest Money” Act is now being funded by an equally deceptively named front group, the Small Business Action Committee (SBAC), which has dropped millions into Prop 32, the ballot measure.

General:

A Brief Report From The Redlands by trilingual1946 - Diarist takes note of the unease in the suburbs of Kansas City, which is normally staunchly Republican. Even Republican candidates who lost to Tea Party extremists in the primary have taken to endorsing Democrats in the general.

LAST DAY to Register in Florida, Ohio, Colorado & More (Rec it, Tweet it, FB it, Digg it!) by tremayne - Diarist reminds us that today is the last day for registrations in a bunch of states. Link to detailed information for each.

Registration deadline TODAY 16 states. Take a vow: no Placebo ballots! by joan reports - Diarist lists the states for which the registration deadline is today, and warns about poll workers attempting to divert voters into voting a 'provisional' ballot that is likely not to be counted. Also status in voter ID states, procedures for absentee ballots.

PPPs Bigger Story In Minnesota by SMWalt - Polling shows momentum shifting against the proposed voter ID amendment in Minnesota.

Scotty Raz: Dems lead on Generic Congressional Ballot by PALiberal1 - "The chief GOP narrative pollster, Scott Rasmussen, showed Republicans +4 on last week's generic congressional ballot. Now, after the awful, game-changing, supposedly permanent large shift of the public suddenly hungering for GOP leadership after last week's debate, Democrats lead by 1 point. It swung TOWARD us by FIVE points on what was perhaps the worst week for Democrats since the debt ceiling crisis.

Why Nevada WILL Remain a Blue State This Fall by atdnext - We now have a better sense of what the final voter registration totals will be. While we must wait a few more days for the final official statewide report, the Clark County (Metro Las Vegas) numbers point to a very strong finish for Nevada Democrats.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
