off of high incomes. President Obama has endorsed that approach several times. President Obama has also rightfully said many times that Social Security is NOT the cause of the deficit.

Anything pertaining to Social Security will be dealt with OUTSIDE of the budget. Obama and his new team (consisting of Jack Lew, a strong defender of Social Security) have mentioned this.

We will no longer have a debt ceiling crisis context after the election. No more Rahm Emmanuel influencing Obama. No more Bill Daley influencing Obama. No more Austin Goolsbee influencing Obama. No more Tim Geithener influencing Obama etc. At the same time, there is no sugarcoating that Obama should not have had his eyes on the Third Rail in the bad ways during the 2011 debt ceiling drama. That was bad PERIOD.

But that old context influencing Obama badly is ALL gone.

Here we have Obama saying to the AARP that he strongly supports raising the cap off of high incomes.

“You know, I do think that looking at changing the cap is an important aspect of putting Social Security on a more stable footing,” Obama said, via satellite feed. “And what I’ve said is, is that I’m willing to work with Republicans and examine all their ideas, but what I’m not going to do, as a matter of principle, is to slash benefits or privatize Social Security and suddenly turn it over to Wall Street — because we saw what could happen back in 2008 and 2009 when the stock market crashed, and we are still recovering from that.”

Biden supplementing that saying "I guarantee you there will be NO changes to SS" supports the formation of a new context where Obama has moved away from those bad ideas.

Nancy Pelosi winning back her gavel changes the dynamics of the lame duck session drastically. Reid promised to get rid of the filibuster months ago recently. President Obama will then no longer be hostage taken under republicans. No more debt ceiling sagas too :)

That, folks, is favorable context for Obama to be able to tweak SS by raising the cap which is great for sanity and progressives.

Let's help Obama so he is not hostage bound and ensure that the people can finally get so much of what they want need.

Nancy Pelosi for speaker!!! Senate majorities so the filibuster finally goes away so America FINALLY prospers again!!!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
