SIMPLE.
I'm a Democrat. I think Joe Biden won the debate. I think Republicans think Joe Biden won the debate, and I base that on their whining about Joe Biden's smiling, aggressiveness, blahblahblah. So, I think Joe Biden won.
Last week, common consensus was that the Pres. lost the debate (I heartily disagree, but we're going with consensus). What happened. MSNBC had a collective nervous breakdown. Democrats everywhere were depressed, irate, unhinged, losing sleep, and yelling loudly all over the place that our President is a wimp. The Republicans agreed with all of this, naturally. The Pres. was attacked from all sides - literally, as Joe would say.
What happened last night and this morning? Every Republican talking head was rallying around their man. "He was great. Biden was a bully. Paul Ryan was honest", and on and o and on. I haven't heard one Republican say a single negative thing about Ryan.
What did the Dems do afer the first debate? They trashed the President over and over for the whole week. The Pres. didn't even get credit for honesty against lies. He didn't get even a little slack for having to come face to face with someone who completely denied his year long positions. Ever tried getting a practiced liar to admit to anything? Romney compared President Obama to one of his lying "boys". Did he indirectly call the President 'boy"? I dunno. But, I, for one, could barely wait for the VP debate if for no other reason than to just get us Dems to shut up. This close to the election, let's grit our teeth, stand by our man. We can acknowledge the truth however we see it, without going into a full blown hysterical fit, giving the other side even more ammunition than they already have. If President Obama wins - and he will - we can put as much pressure on him for policies we want - and we should. But now is not the time to challenge him all over the internets for believing a debate should be a debate based on an honest representation of what we believe and have done. If we have a President Romney, simply put, we're fucked, and for a very, very long time. If Romney wins, we can take slit our wrists, move to Canada, become bed wetters, whatever. Until then, those who cannot stand by our man (not DK people, and I say that sincerely) because they think their bloody, self-important opinions actually matter, should STFU. If we lose, I will blame them - before I slit my wrists.
