Orange Squiggle of Down-Ticket Power
EDR compiles, describes and links election related diaries for down-ticket races through the closing months of election seasons. Down-ticket means any non-Presidential race.
This group was formed by the producers of a front page diary series that rescued election related diaries in 2006, 2008 and 2010. 2012 marks the first election since Daily Kos was born that there is blog devoted to election coverage - Daily Kos Elections.
Election Diary Rescue is proud to be a part of this project.
EDR chronicles the passion, power and effectiveness of political engagement and shines a light on candidates and issues that might be missed during an action-packed election cycle. It gives quick access to races, hopefully inspires people to write about contests that interest them, and has become an archive for thousands of election related diaries over the years.
The Diary List for this project, founded by sidinny, links all the rescued diaries since 2006.
Format, Tag, Schedule
Diarists can help the EDR mining team by identifying the race in the diary title, for example: (FL-14) or (GA-Gov) or (NY-Sen). Using the "Elections" tag is also helpful. New this year, you can write your first sentence or two as the synopsis you would like to see in the EDR description.
EDR's schedule for mining diaries is noon to noon. Our publishing schedule is in the evening. That means for example if you post your diary at 12:00 pm (noon) on Wednesday, we will include it in the EDR list in Thursday evening's post. If you publish your diary at 11:59 am on Thursday, it will be in the diary collection for Thursday evening as well.
Senate
[AZ-Sen] AZ-Sen: Debate Between Richard Carmona and Jeff Flake. Carmona kicks ass! by pipsorcle - Carmona (D) puts in a good performance debating Flake (R) and Marc Victor (L). A link to video of the debate is included in the diary.
[AZ-Sen] The Amazing Story of Dr. Richard Carmona and my Late Grandfather by Roatti - You may all be familiar with Richard Carmona (D) - he is a Vietnam Veteran and former US Surgeon General who then became highly critical of the Bush Administration over its political interference with scientific findings, and is currently running for Senate in Arizona against Tea Party candidate Jeff Flake. However, Richard Carmona has also had an amazing interaction with the diarist's family.
[IN-Sen] IN-Sen: EPIC FAIL! GOP Hoosiers Troll The Wrong Joe Donnelly (D) On Twitter by poopdogcomedy - Poor Richard Mourdock (R). His campaign has taken to Twitter to target his opponent, Democrat Joe Donnelly. Unfortunately, they've targeted the wrong Joe Donnelly. ActBlue page for Donnelly linked.
[MA-Sen] UPDATED! MA-Sen: PPP Tweet Has Great News! by poopdogcomedy - Elizabeth Warren (D) leads Scott Brown (R) 50-44 in PPP's latest poll.
[MA-Sen] Third Massachusetts senate debate allows Warren to shine by Joan McCarter - Elizabeth Warren (D) puts in an accomplished debate performance against Scott Brown (R).
[MA-Sen] Massachusetts likes their Professor Warren by kos - A promising diarist notes that Republicans' use of the word 'professor' to label Elizabeth Warren (D) is backfiring, as professors are popular in Massachusetts. Scott Brown (R) is her opponent in November.
[MN-Sen] MN-SEN: Mister Bills joins chorus of crazies who claim unemployment numbers were faked by The Big E - Republican Senate candidate Kurt Bills is providing some of the best comedy of the election season in his race against Democrat Amy Klobuchar.

House
[CA-01] My Son Totaled My Car by caliblue - Diarist's son used her car to take out a few pounds of rice in a field owned by millionaire good ol' boy Doug LaMalfa (R). LaMalfa is running for the CA-01 House seat against Jim Reed (D).
[IL-11] IL-11 Biggert Cancels Debate by elizanne - Judy Biggert (R) backs out of Tuesday's prospective debate with Bill Foster (D).
[MN-08] MN-08: As Nolan Gains Momentum And Cravaack Sinks In Polls, Coleman And Boehner Abandon Ship by keewatinrose - Republican leadership figures are diverting funds away from Chip Cravaack's campaign as he continues to flounder in polling matchups against Rick Nolan (D).
[PA-08] NRCC links (D) Kathy Boockvar to Mumia Abu-Jamal; Incumbent Teabagger Linked to Pedophile Priest by S Kitchen - If Kathy Boockvar is in some way culpable due to a slim link to a convicted killer, isn't Republican Mike Fitzpatrick, as a Catholic, also culpable in regard to the priest abuse scandal?
[UT-04] Rising GOP star Mia Love is in hot water; time to throw her an anvil! by engine17 - In last Sunday's Deseret News, Lee Benson points out that Mia Love (R) has lied about being an anchor baby. Diarist is not sure Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson (UT-2) can go after this hard himself, but explains why and how we should throw the anvil.
[WI-01] 10 things Paul Ryan doesn't want you to know by Jon Perr - Following his Republican National Convention speech chock full of omissions, misrepresentations, and outright lies, the GOP vice presidential nominee was pilloried, and a repeat performance in the vice presidential debate is expected. Diarist has compiled a list that will also be useful for those who would like to see Paul Ryan lose his Wisconsin House seat to Rob Zerban (D) as well.
[WI-01] Why Paul Ryan Is A "Zero" For The Middle Class by ijpoole - In Congress, Paul Ryan (R) has relentlessly opposed the fundamental things that middle-class people want and need, and that opposition is reflected in Ryan's "zero" score in TheMiddleClass.org 2012 Voter Guide, released earlier this month. His opponent is Rob Zerban (D).
[WI-01] WI-01: Rob Zerban has outraised Paul Ryan by more than $200,000 in 3rd Quarter! by pipsorcle - Good news for Zerban and a hopeful question by the diarist: Could Ryan be out of a job on the evening of November 6th? We can be a part of making sure that happens.
[WI-01] WI-01: Rob Zerban in Danville for Vice Presidential Debate by Rob Zerban - The Candidate Campaign has a post up with a video & some info on the Wisconsin 01 District race between incumbent and VP candidate Paul Ryan (R) and Rob Zerban (D).
State:
[NH-StHouse] So Much For Transparency (in NH politics) by susanthe - Republican Speaker of the New Hampshire House Bill O'Brien promised transparency when he took office in 2011. Various:
[Var-Polling] Daily Kos Elections Polling Wrap: Welcome back to the national-state polling divide (yes...again) by Steve Singiser - After a couple of small-to-medium (smedium?) days of polling girth to kick off this week, Thursday moved back into XXL mode, as a new record total of 65 polls crossed our desks here at Daily Kos Elections since last night.
Ballot Initiatives:
[CA-Prop 32] Unions in the News by donnyg1941 - California's Proposition 32, if passed, would no longer allow automatic payroll deductions to be used for political purposes.

[MI-Prop 6] In Michigan, Vote No on Proposal 6 by gdunn - Proposal 6 would require a public vote before Michigan could participate in the next International Trade Crossing between Detroit and Windsor. Diarist argues that the proposal is a sneaky Koch Brothers attack on unions, and is too expensive to justify.
General:
Iowa Early Voting Update, 10/12/12 by FightingRegistrar - Another daily update by diarist of the latest figures from Iowa on absentee ballot requests and returns.
Republican precinct chair in Texas has voted twice in same elections in both Texas and Pennsylvania by dewtx - The diarist tells us about Tea party folks voting twice while worrying about voter fraud. Best of all is a link to a hilarious piece by a writer named, Juanita Jean, who writes with a tone similar to our beloved Molly Ivins.
