The Obama campaign as put out another video today, hot on the heels of the ad of Former Senator and Astronaut John Glenn that is being aired in Ohio. This one focuses on what President Obama has done for Main Street as told by average Americans.
Woman #1: We’ve gone from pulling into our parking lot, which was so depressing there would be two or three cars in this parking lot, to a parking lot being full.
Woman #2: We have a whole second shift that we brought in new employees and we have a future at our plant now.
Man #1: When you look at the President’s plan, I don’t think there can be any question that we’re on the right course for today’s economy.
Man #2: President Obama does get what people need and that’s jobs and the opportunity to help themselves.
Man #3: Stick with this guy he will move us forward.
I'm Barack Obama and I approved this message.
According to
The Hill, the "30-second spot, titled
Main Street, is set to air in the battleground states of Colorado, Iowa, Nevada and Virginia." Just because the ad isn't airing in your state, doesn't stop youfrom sharing it via email and social media like Facebook and Twitter!
I'm home now from another day of phone banking in Florida. The auto-dialer isn't available until 5:00 p.m., so the great team at the OFA field office created a list for me to call older voters in my area. I was able to make direct calls to these people until the auto-dialer was available. I didn't get a count today, but I made a lot of calls and then the auto-dialer went down around 8:30 p.m. tonight. Evidently there were so many people making calls on behalf of Organizing for America and the Democratic Party here Florida tonight, that we crashed the system. But, we were still able to make calls using lists created by our local office. That by no way means that we don't need your help.
As you may already have read in distraught's diary, Florida Dems rocking the absentee vote: Republicans "nervous", "not good news", or if you watched the first segment of The Rachel Maddow Show, Democrats are giving Republicans a run for their money in the area of absentee voting in Florida this election. That means it's time to start ramping up the pressure! So if you have time to spare, please volunteer to help make calls and inform Democrats that they can vote NOW. They do not have to wait for Early Voting from October 27 through November, and they do not have to wait until Election Day. They can vote now by requesting an absentee ballot be mailed to them.
We're also informing voters that they can go directly to the office of their Supervisor of Elections, request an absentee ballot, complete it and turn it in, all in one trip. If one of the reasons you're not comfortable making calls is that you don't want to have to talk to a Romney support, let me alleviate your worries. First of all, the lists have already been narrowed down to supporters of President Obama, and undecided Independent voters. Second, out of the 103 people I talked to on Sunday, only two told me that they were voting for Mitt Romney. They were very polite, as was I. You're chances of being contacted to somebody who wants to argue with you are just about nil. We need your help. We're in full GOTV (Get Out The Vote) mode. It's important to remind people when and where they can vote, and encourage them to vote. Nothing does this better than a personal call or a knock on their door. We need your help.
If you can't spend time in your local OFA field office, ask them about giving you the necessary training and a list of people to call. You can then take it home with you and call from home, returning the list to the office once you've completed the calls. I learned about this today. I now have a list I can work from at home, and then go in at 5:00 p.m. to help make calls using the auto-dialer.
If you need more inspiration and motivation to get out of your chair and volunteer, please read jplanner's diary Calling for OFA was CONVENIENT and EASY-I convinced 2 people to vote for Obama!. I also wrote a diary about my first experience phone banking, My First Day Phone Banking for President Obama!. Your help is needed. There is no such thing as too many volunteers.
