Hello dKos community! Long time member here (2003), but this is my first diary. Please take it easy on me.
I have been outraged since the last debate, not only at the President's performance but even more so at the media narrative that has emerged.
My disgust at the whole situation boiled over this morning while watching 'Morning Joe' (morbid curiosity, what can I say). For an hour straight they talked about the horserace: poll numbers, Mitt's "momentum", etc. Halperin unveiled his Romney path to victory map, they all talked about how Romney made himself a "viable alternative" in the first debate.... blah, blah, f***ing blah. Not one mention of the lies and distortions, not one mention of the flip-flops, not one mention of the fraud and deception that defines the Romney/Ryan campaign. You would think at least they would mention Ryan's ridiculous, embarrassing photo op. Of course they didn't. But I digress.
Anyway, I started thinking about some things that -- in a perfect world -- Obama might say at tonight's debate. (past the fold)
(I will try to update this diary throughout the day with some of the better suggestions that you all add. Feel free to correct and/or improve upon mine, of course)
Let's start with the obvious:
Why haven't you released your tax returns?
Please tell the people who your "non-partisan" sources were that studied your tax plan. Do you seriously think AEI is non-partisan? Bloggers... really?
If the wealthiest Americans are going to pay the same amount of tax after you supposedly close the tax loopholes while giving them a 20% tax break, why give them the tax break at all? (thanks, Steven Colbert!)
Do you honestly think that people who go to the emergency room for medical care are NOT responsible for paying the bill? Do you have any idea how many people file bankruptcy or have their credit rating destroyed because of medical bills?
Maybe if this election doesn't work out for you, you can run for President of the Cayman Islands, since that's where all your money is.
You have said that you plan to defund Planned Parenthood. What would you say to a woman who is dying of breast cancer or cervical cancer because they didn't have access to health care screening for early detection?
If you were such a successful Governor in Massachusetts, why were your approval ratings so low when you left office? Why are you not even competing there in this election (thanks, VP!)
No doubt I am missing some obvious ones. Help me out folks.
Oh - I have put together a bumper sticker that I think defines the Ryan-Romney campaign pretty well. Let me know what you think, and feel free to give me other suggestions for anti-Romney goods. I'll see what I can do.
