I am not on Facebook, but I use my wife's account to see what type of wingnuttery my extended family is up to, today my mother in-law posted this nugget:
"Well, they all said Obamacare would not raise taxes and the government was paying for it. Well, guess what, another lie. My husband has worked for a very large engineering firm that I will not mention, for 26 yrs. and worked his ass off as I did for over 30 yrs. Now, his company says to get ready for Obamcare, if it is implemented, they just increased his health insurance for employee + spouse $1200 a yr and the life insurance is doubled. We are not paying for everyone else Obama!"
Ignoring the obvious misstatement about taxes going up, and that the gov't was going to pay for it (calling for single payer are we?), the point I want to be able to counter should the subject come up is the insurance premium claims.
I understand that uninsured people cause rates to go up, she does not, I understand that more people being insured will bring rates down eventually, she ignores this fact to push her point. But why are the insurance companies raising rates? I thought that kind of thing was stopped by the health law? Is their insurance company just being spiteful? Or, like my credit card company, are they getting what they can while they can?
By the way, that large engineering company she refers to, gets about 83% of its revenue from defense contracts, you know, government money, but we wouldnt want to pay for anyone else would we?
