Welcome to Thursday Coffee Hour. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is going on in your life. Today I braved the lines for the first day of early voting here in North Carolina.
Since I’m not sure if I was going to be back before Election Day because I need to go back up to Indiana I decided to vote early. We went to the only place open right now and it was really crowded. We had to park several blocks away and walk over. It took and hour and forty minutes to actually vote. The election helpers were really surprised at the turnout. They didn’t think there would be that many for the first day. Looking at the picture the line went from where the picture was taken, down a long corridor, around both sides of the wall, up the escalator, around another corner and snaked its way around the second floor. Looking at the crowd I would say over 50% were African American. Even among those who were white I saw more people holding the blue Democrat voting forms then the red Republican and many discarded red forms and no blue ones. Judging strictly by what I was seeing with the forms and listening in I would say a good 75% were supporters of President Obama. Upon leaving we met Elisabeth Motsinger and I got a big hug from her. She remembered my post on my brother and made sure to ask how I was. I certainly hope that the endorsement of the Winston Salem Journal will be enough to get her elected.
