According to the AP, Gloria Allred's promised "October Surprise" is contained within Mitt Romney's testimony in the Divorce papers of the former wife of Staples founder (and Romney supporter) Tom Stemberg.
Meanwhile, according to British Tabloid The Daily Mail Donald Trump's much-publicized "October Surprise" is the never-filed divorce papers Michelle Obama took out in 2000 during their own, never-denied "rough patch".
I don't know about the rest of you, but I am very disappointed. If there isn't a "live boy or a dead girl" in either of these papers, I am going to be highly disappointed. /snark.
None of these are worthy of any attention whatsoever. The Obama's have never hidden the fact that they went through a rough patch some time ago, but the fact is, they have rebounded from it, and have a stronger relationship now (as well as another daughter, Sasha, who seems to have been conceived post-"rough patch"). Michelle has mentioned their past marital difficulties in speeches and interviews, and Barack wrote about them in one of his books (don't recall which currently).
As for the Stemberg divorce papers, the only thing I can think of that might be contained in Mitt's testimony is statements regarding the worth of Staples pre-Bain buyout, and/or the then-current value, for estate assessment purposes. I don't know what kinds of claims Romney has made regarding the value added to Staples as a result of the Bain deal, but even if he overstated the business value he brought to Staples as a result of Bain's involvement, I can't see it affecting the campaign in any significant way. He's already lied so many times during the course of the Primary and General Campaigns that I think people are used to it by now.
