The Southern Baptist Convention invents a new commandment.
This time the howler focuses on the word “vagina.”
Lifeway Christian Resources, once upon a time known as the Baptist Sunday School Board, takes issue with Rachel Held Evans’ latest book, “A Year of Biblical Womanhood”. The offense? Rachel included the word “vagina” in a simple declarative sentence.
Her publisher tipped her off early to the possibility of the problem. The offending word remained in the sentence.
John Piper, an SBC heavyweight, is reported to have not exactly thrown Rachel out of the sleigh but did offer up a “Farewell Rachel Evans” tweet.
Anyway. The article is called “The Real Reason For Vagina-gate”: Has the Southern Baptist Convention misplaced its binders full of women? It can be found at Religion Dispatches.
Fundamentalist never seem to tire of providing an author with the best of free book promotion ---- a contrived crisis.
You will love this. Rev. Piper clears it up this way. “God Gave Christianity a Masculine Feel”.
There ya go.
