This started as an important comment I posted in a couple of threads. Then the light bulb went off. Why not put this in a diary. So this will be real short, but it is a reminder to Floridians that Early Vote begins tomorrow.
Black clergy have designated this as Operation Lemonade to let the GOP that we are turning out to vote regardless of their tactics.
Some of you know that the republicans cut the number of early voting days from 14 to eight. They cut out the last Sunday before Election Day, which for black voters was Souls to the Polls Day. That is when ministers ended services and along with entire congregations went to early voting sites to vote en mass. Those votes helped lead to the massive numbers that President Obama racked up across the country. It helped him carry Florida in 2008.
Now we only have one Sunday. Instead of whining and groaning, we're turning this into Souls to the Polls weekend. We're using Saturday and Sunday to get to the polls and vote.
Early Voting begins tomorrow and Operation Lemonade is in full effect. Rick Scott and the gooper Legislature gave us lemons with all the suppressive rules and changes. We're gonna make lemonade anyway. On Saturday we are blessing the polls and voting, then Sunday we're taking our Souls to the Polls after church and voting.
The creator of Operation Lemonade is Bishop Victor T. Curry, who is president of the local chapter of the National Action Network. He and Rev. Al Sharpton will visit rallies at several early voting sites in Miami-Dade and Broward counties Saturday and Sunday. Other celebrities will visit other polling places around the state. There will be similar activities in Jacksonville, Palm Beach, Orlando, Tampa and Tallahassee.
Everyone is welcome to join us. Remember, polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 27 through Nov. 3. Find an early voting site and VOTE!! We're working hard for Team Obama and Team Blue!
GoooooooooooooooooooooooooObama!
