(All credit goes to George W for that classic)
So... Are Americans really this stupid?
(If national polls are any indication, apparently they
are)
Remember last time nearly half the electorate was bamboozled into thinking they were voting for a "compassionate conservative"? While a complicit media played along? Of course we do. As for the 40-something-percent Romney voters - It's only been twelve years, people... wake the f*** up!
Sure, many of us could see through the BS. We knew what was coming. These right wing assholes are nothing if not predictable.
They know the low-information voters (and the media) have short memories. They know that enough of them will fall for the used-car sales pitch that completely disregards history and brushes aside their well-documented extreme positions of the past.
Anyway, every time I refer back to this piece from The Onion, it amazes me how spot-on they were, capturing the whole essence of the upcoming Bush Presidency before it even started.
Here are some choice quotes from this article, "Bush: 'Our Long National Nightmare Of Peace And Prosperity Is Finally Over'", dated January 17, 2001:
If you haven't seen this before, do yourself a favor and check it out. It will probably make you laugh and cry.
"Finally, the horrific misrule of the Democrats has been brought to a close," House Majority Leader Dennis Hastert (R-IL) told reporters. "Under Bush, we can all look forward to military aggression, deregulation of dangerous, greedy industries, and the defunding of vital domestic social-service programs upon which millions depend. Mercifully, we can now say goodbye to the awful nightmare that was Clinton's America."
"We as a people must stand united, banding together to tear this nation in two," Bush said. "Much work lies ahead of us: The gap between the rich and the poor may be wide, be there's much more widening left to do. We must squander our nation's hard-won budget surplus on tax breaks for the wealthiest 15 percent. And, on the foreign front, we must find an enemy and defeat it."
Let's NOT allow history to repeat itself. Let's
Get Out The Vote!
PS: WHERE ARE YOUR TAX RETURNS, MITT???!!!!!!
