So the Minneapolis Star Tribune endorsed Jim Graves over Rep. Michele Bachmann. So they also slammed Bachmann over a number of different issues. As a Graves supporter, I'm pleased.
But ...
Imagine if the first time voters of Minnesota's Sixth District learned of Bachmann's bigotry, gaffes and utter disregard for the truth had not been via the national media because of her presidential run? Imagine if Minnesota's paper of record had been fact-checking her all along?
I'm convinced Graves would be leading this race if the journalists in this state would have been doing their jobs all these years.
But this is a journalistic age in which the Tampa-St. Petersburg Times wins all kinds of awards for fact-checking (PolitiFact). Why? Because nobody else does it.
