No, not a question of whether Gallup will lose influence if their 2012 polling turns out to be as far off the mark as it appears. Pollsters survive inaccuracy.
But the election is next Tuesday. They suspended the tracking poll yesterday because of the storm, with thus far no indication of when they'll start again. Gallup run a seven-day tracker. Even if they start again tomorrow, there will be a gap in their data that makes it impossible to have those seven days of polling in any survey before the election. And when--if?--they start again, whatever methodology they use will differ, and will thus in effect be a new poll and cannot be compared to their previous results.
If they go back to their old three-day tracker model, they won't be able to start reporting results until Saturday with only three campaigning days remaining.
So what do you think? Are we going to see Gallup polling again this election?
