Today someone I don't know, but who works for a company I've had dealings with, was kind enough to send me his entire email contact list. Actually, it looks more like the entire Outlook contact list for his employer. But either way...
My belief is that, unless your business IS politics, it is always best not to mix the two. Since this fellow has decided to cross that line, I believe he deserves - at the very least - a good hearty fact-checking.
Follow me past the Satanic Squiggle of Schadenfreude if you'd like to contribute to the effort.
I wish to respond to his email in a kind but rational fashion, and while doing so copy every single person he knows just in case some of them are still wavering in their voting decision. It might also provide an object lesson as to why you don't mix business and politics.
I plan to pick his email apart point by point and address the political inaccuracies (but not the grammatical errors), and should be ever so grateful for the input of the community in this endeavor.
The text of the email:
I am sending out this e-mail to all of my contacts that I feel sees this
upcoming presidential election as perhaps the most important in not only our
lifetime but our children and grandchildren lifetime. In the past four
years our country has become more divided than it has been since the civil
war. This is not by accident, but by plan, in my opinion. The best way to
gain control is to divide the people. This president has been extremely
effective at doing just that. However more importantly he has moved this
countries moral compass away from God and toward more dependence on
government.
If he is elected you can be sure that we will have a lot more executive
orders and more cover ups of events that would be considered negative
information to his popularity. I shutter to think what this country will be
like if we have four (4) more years of his self-serving leadership.
If you feel the same way I do, please contact everyone you know and
encourage them to go VOTE for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan! The difference in
who wins and who losses this election will be what party gets the voters to
the polls.
Oddly enough I agree with many of his statements, what I take offense with are the paranoid justifications and projections. For example, I do believe this is one of the most important elections in my lifetime - because we can't afford to go back to the failed Republican policies that got us into financial crisis.
If you care to contribute counter points, and especially if you happen to have links handy - something like a link to a video of Newt saying he was proud to participate in the meeting where Republicans conspired to block all efforts at recovery, please drop it in the comments below. I'd like to set up a disposable email account this weekend and send this out ahead of the election.
