Oh, if you want a good read before turning in tonight, you have to check out Charles Blow's latest column. I have been enamored with Mr. Blow ever since I saw him in an appearance on The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell explaining What Makes Little Bombs Go Off In Republican Minds. In his most recent column, Mr. Blow itemizes the reasons that Mitt Romney's campaign is unraveling including the economy, dwindling momentum, and Hurricane Sandy.
But it's the final reason, 4) Truth and lies, that is a must read. We all know that Mitt Romney is a master prevaricator. We've been hearing all week about how Romney has been claiming, as well as airing ads in Ohio, that President Obama is responsible for Jeep jobs being shipped to China ... and we know that is a flat out lie. Even the CEOs of the company have called Romney out for it. But have you heard or read this one? Maybe you have, and I'm the only one who missed it. I've been spending more time on the phone making calls to voters in Florida lately than keeping up with the news.
He criticized Obama for telling then-President Dmitri Medvedev of Russia that he would have “more flexibility” to deal with sensitive issues between the two countries after he won re-election. Romney said this was particularly troubling given that Russia “is without question our No. 1 geopolitical foe.”
However, according to a report on Friday in The New York Times, Romney’s son Matt recently traveled to Russia and delivered a message to President Vladimir Putin:
“Mr. Romney told a Russian known to be able to deliver messages to Mr. Putin that despite the campaign rhetoric, his father wants good relations if he becomes president, according to a person informed about the conversation.”
It sounds as though he was signaling that Mitt would do exactly what he had castigated Obama for: operate with “more flexibility” after the election.
This is the kind of hypocrisy that just makes you shake your head in disbelief.
Is Romney Unraveling?
This is so rich. Do you think Matt Romney also conveyed to Mr. Putin that Russia should just ignore all the claims on the Romney website on
a page completely dedicated to the issue of Russia?
