For those of you who are familiar with the Richmond, VA area, Bill's Barbecue was for many decades a popular fixture, serving pork barbecue sandwiches and good pies. My wife has family members in NC, and long-standing ties with Virginia, and every time we were in Richmond, we used to make it a point to stop at Bill's Barbecue for some pork barbecue and a piece of pie. The last time we did so was 7 or 8 years ago, when the barbecue was pretty bad and the service was worse. After a long decline, Bill's closed its last locations a few months ago.
Mitt Romney is now running a commercial in Virginia blaming the demise of Bill's Barbecue on Barack Obama. The only problem is that people who live in the Richmond area know why Bill's failed -- poor food, poor service, a history of health code violations, and generally not changing anything in decades. The Richmond Times-Dispatch has an article up on the Romney commercial, and the comments from Richmond area residents about the absurdity of blaming the failure of Bill's Barbecue on Barack Obama are hilarious. I think the absurdity of this commercial may be so obvious to anybody in the Richmond area that it could end up actually costing Romney votes
