Baltimore Saturday November 3, 2012
The Hierarchy in the Catholic Church would have everyone believe that all Catholics support the edict from Rome that Catholics should be against same-sex marriage.
Bishop William Lori was moved to Baltimore recently because he worked very hard to twist an effort in Connecticut into an issue of religious freedom.
The goal of the Catholic Church was to place Lori into the center of a heated debate in Maryland about Marriage Equality and twist the story in a debate about religious liberty. It didn't happen as convincingly as the church had hoped. Lori did work tirelessly to convince Catholics that they should vote against Question 6 which will uphold Marriage Equality in Maryland if passed on November 6th. But many are saying they will vote FOR Question 6.
Many Catholics remember the command by an earlier Catholic leader that voters should use their consciences when deciding to vote. Many are living by their conscience.
On Saturday fourty-two Catholics gather at the Basilica in Baltimore (the oldest Catholic cathedral in the USA) to support question 6. The teamed up with Catholic members of Light Brigade Maryland and to show support to marriage Equality in Maryland. The Catholic group’s leader insists that “more than half of the people in the pews support marriage equality.”
The election is tomorrow and will soon find out whose perspective wins out. Most on Saturday’s gathering are hopefully optimistic about the future of Marriage Equality in Maryland.
