I believe that the law should apply to all people equally, regardless of race, age, gender, wealth, who your father is, who your mother is, sexual orientation, criminal history, and religious affiliation or lack thereof.

Why?

I am a Democrat.

I believe that a woman has the right to make the choice about whether or not to conceive a child and whether to bring that child to term.

I believe that we are the moral heirs of Abraham Lincoln, Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt, and Harry Truman.

I believe that Rick Santorum's brain resembles a whack-a-mole game.

Why?

I am a Democrat.

I believe in a progressive tax system.

I believe that those of us who benefit the most from living in this country should contribute the most to making sure it stays great.

I believe in the scientific method.

I believe that teachers, firefighters, nurses and policemen who serve the public interest have a right to unionize and collectively bargain, and that anyone who tries to denigrate them should end up with his house on fire, his children stupid, his property looted, and trying to self-medicate his own stroke symptoms.

I believe that the scariest words in the English language are "President Palin".

Why?

I'm a Democrat.

I believe that voting is not a right, but a responsibility.

I believe that trying to curtail someone's responsibility to vote should be treated as treason, as they are making our country weaker by destroying faith in the democratic process that millions died to protect.

I believe that there is no reason on earth or heaven to allow a child to go to bed sick or hungry if there is a way to prevent it.

I believe that the pirates who looted our financial system should be forced to spend eternity working at a customer service call center for Verizon.

I believe that there should be no such things as "too big too fail", gated communities, golden parachutes, executive bonuses for bankrupt companies, executive stock option, corporate tax breaks, or a world that rewards those that gut American companies and moves their jobs overseas.

I believe in public schools, head start, free school lunches, and that every single public school teacher should get, as a minimum, a free house for serving the public welfare (not really).

Why?

I'm a Democrat.

I believe that Barack Obama is a good president.

I believe that those who are born to, aspire to, or achieve great power bear in turn the responsibility for using that power for the benefit of the country.

I believe that the only true aristocracy is that of the mind.

I believe that women are not inferior to men, but superior to them, because of what they are and what they can do. Therefore, they should demand from society every concession that they can get. "Women and children first" is the highest moral saying that any mature society can aspire to.

Why?

I'm a Democrat.

I believe that members of one social class should not demand that members of another should go to war on their behalf, if they are not willing to go to war themselves.

I believe in solar power, electric cars, civil rights, gay rights, non-criminalization of marijuana, the abolition of the death penalty, conservation of natural resources, and reasonably priced love.

I believe that America is a fundamentally decent place.

Why?

I'm a Democrat.

Feel free to add anything that I may have missed.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
