While I was watching MSNBC today and writing a semi-bogus diary, my sister was working for GOTV in Iowa. This is why what you all do makes a difference.
A nice story from today. We are located in one not huge room with the phone canvassers sitting at one table and the walking canvassers being trained at another table. then Sxx, Azzz, and me are at another table with laptops reviewing lists and calling the next group of canvassers (and peeking at the latest 538 updates). Anyway, at about 4:30 this afternoon one of the phone bankers was talking to a 76 year old women who had requested a ballot but had not received it. That meant that to vote tomorrow and be sure her ballot counted, she needed to get to the auditor's office, which was closing at 6.
The phone bank person, a feisty ex San Francisco lady, turned to me and said, "can we get this lady to the Auditor's office. She says that she will crawl there if she has to." So, I talked to her and arranged to pick her up in 15 minutes because she wanted to be dressed properly.
I picked her up and we got to the auditor's office where the wait was about 35 minutes. She talked to the clerk who voided her first ballot and then she got to vote. As I was driving her back home, she kept thanking me and the person who knocked on her door yesterday who alerted her to the potential problem. I walked her to the door and got her safely inside. As I walked back to my car, she said, "I will be praying for the President and for all the people out there working to ensure people can vote because that is our right.
Thanks to all of you who have done so much.
