I hear all the talking heads saying Pres. Obama has to meet the Repubilicans half way on the budget. I say the President really does not need do anything. The last time we hit a serious cliff and the repubilicans refused to do a deal the dow hit 6000. trillions of dollar of wealth were lost in open trading. Then wallstreet put pressure on repubilicans to do a deal. wallstreet and corporations stand to lose more money without a deal. President Obama is holding a full house this time. He should call thier all in.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

building metaphor, and it works like this: the Republicans are the demented man who is standing on a narrow, tenth-floor ledge and is threatening to jump unless God reverses the path of the sun. President Obama is the cop who has just arrived on scene and is trying to talk the demented man back in the window. People in the building are also pleading with the man to come back inside, and crowds on the street below are craning their necks upward, begging the man to go back inside. Television crews are sending the gripping images all over the nation and Americans have stopped their daily tasks to watch.

Obama notices that there are nine ropes tied to the jumper's leg, and they stretch over the ledge and go downward. Just then Obama gets a radio message: the jumper has tied each rope to an explosive device on each floor, and, as he falls he will set off each bomb which will quickly demolish the building, killing everyone inside and many on the street below.

Then the jumper, in his demented state, comes closer to Obama. Suddenly, he is within Obama's reach. Should the President grab the man and pull him inside or should he just try to talk him down?

Republicans take look as if they care - by coming together with the President to extend some of the so-called Bush tax cuts for the middle-class.....or they can allow the cuts to expire and be seen as obstructionists (even if they eventually deal).

This is the 'kumbaya' moment for the GOP.

For better or worse, I'm not sure Speaker Boehner can get his caucus to agree to compromise....but moderates might not be so stupid.

I'm selling stocks and making popcorn.

Time to let the pigeons come home to roost. The Republicans negotiated the asinine 'sequester' and the 'fiscal cliff' in an attempt to leave a time bomb baked into the budget cake, so they could take hostages again.

But Obama should absolutely refuse to deal. Let the tax cuts for the wealthy expire. Let the Pentagon take a huge hit. The deficit will nosedive without requiring a single Congressional vote.

And in January, make the Republican lunatics vote upperdown on a straight middle class tax cut. Make 'em vote upperdown on popular programs like road construction and farm bills. Make them kiss the pavement over and over and over until the 2014 election.
