Powerful Winter Storm Athena moved up the eastern seaboard Wednesday, with its center a few hundred miles east of the New Jersey coast by the mid-afternoon. Winter Weather Advisories are posted from northeast Maryland through Maine in anticipation of several inches of snow by the time the storm exits the area. Coastal Flood Warnings and Wind Advisories are also posted for the same areas that were hit by Sandy last week.

"I know it's awful to think we might take a few steps back," he said in a briefing on Long Beach Island, which was devastated by Sandy and still remains off-limits to residents and everyone else. "I can see us moving backwards, people who have gotten power back losing power again."
Katie Wilford had to leave her Brick Township home near Barnegat Bay as the nor'easter approached. She bundled her sons Nick, 14, and Matthew, 10, into the minivan in search of an open motel.
"It's a little overwhelming," she said. "I can't believe we're doing this again. We're going on Day 10 with no power. That's a long time. I just want the sun to come out and things to be normal again."
Brick was among several shore communities where municipal officials decided to evacuations were needed. Others included Middletown, Point Pleasant and Berkeley.

The state’s new weather emergency made its presence known about 9 a.m. today when winds picked up along the coast and cold, hard rain began falling by 10 a.m.
By 3 p.m., a wintry mix of snow, sleet and rain began falling across New Jersey, and weather data shows the temperature has fallen as much as 10 degrees over the past six hours in some areas.

Parts of Middletown under mandatory evacuation ahead of nor'easter
The township's office of emergency management issued the order for all residents between the Keansburg and Atlantic Highlands borders, from Route 36 to the Raritan Bay.
Residents will be required to leave by 3 p.m. Wednesday ahead of the anticipated high winds that could make debris left in the wake of Sandy become airborne.
Brick Township already ordered evacuations of its low-lying waterfront areas by 6 tonight.
In the Rockaways section of the Queens borough,
Mayor Bloomberg asked 600 people residing in four health center to be evacuated because the region simply cannot experience anything like what happened a week earlier.
