So the other day I wrote a diary called "Wednesday Morning is going to suck!" about the day after Obama's inevitable win and how I wasn't sure how all of my co-workers, who are such crazy Right Wing Romney supporters -would react to his loss.
They were fasting, praying, and utterly convinced that a Romney Presidency was Mormon prophesy waiting to come to fruition. A few people commented on my diary curious about what the actual aftermath would be.
So here is my report. It might be short, but here we go.
The morning started with a text message from my manager (who is the other only non-Mormon at work) she is a Republican, Catholic and a big Obama supporter. She wasn't a fan of Bill Clinton's sexcapades, but she did like how great the economy did under his leadership and George W. Bush was the start of her evolution. The final straw? John McCain picking Sarah Palin.
My manager liked McCain. He was a War Hero, she saw him as an honest upstanding guy and was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt when he said he would not continue to Bush policies. But the pick of Sarah Palin was the end of her alignment with the GOP. The party doesn't represent her any more.
Here is what her text message said:
Hurry up and get here so we can gloat!
But gloat we did not. I didn't want to blow my cover as an apolitical dumb dumb who has no idea what anything going on is about. So I just pretended there was no election last night. During quiet moments when me and my manager were the only two people in any particular part of the office we quickly recapped our favorite moments of the night and laughed about all the stupid billionaires who wasted their money.
But my position as a secret Democrat soon began to feel a little bit like the job of a political spy!
As the day went on the grumpiness of my co-workers started coming out. It started with grumblings of the Sales Tax increase California approved last night. One by one my co-workers chimed in with how corrupt and irresponsible Jerry Brown is. Soon after there was talk of despair. How it would be a long long time before another Mormon would be given the chance to run. How the economy was doomed to "keep failing" because Romney's plans wouldn't be enacted.
Then came the bargaining. One said the prophecy wasn't wrong this was just a warm up from God. The true White Horse candidate was still to come! Then they started speculating that once all the absentee ballots were counted a lot of the states would be close enough to qualify for a recount and that the recounts would favor Romney and by December we could see Obama's Electoral College vanish.
Then came the admiration for Donald Trump and how he has "the right idea" when it comes to revolution. That lead to a discussion about how this country first started going to hell the moment "The Civil Rights Act Passed" and before long there was discussion of an apparently already ongoing attempt to impeach President Obama before the Midterms.
PLEASE DO IT! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TRY IT!
Imagine if the House of Representatives tried to impeach President Obama in the next year. Oh just imagine how many house seats we would pick up in 2014 after that hissy fit fell flat at the steps of the Senate.
The question I have now is this: Are these the mindless fits of sore losers that ultimately won't amount to anything? Or is this a preview of the next four years regarding the continued lunacy of the GOP?
8:46 PM PT: I did want to mention one more thing that was kind of big:
Yesterday, after I posted the original diary, another coworker of mine we will call him "Andy" came by the office to get the payroll numbers because his job is to do all the tax info, etc and actually print all of the reports and check stubs, etc.
He came in and started talking about Voter ID completely unprovoked. He just pointed to a sign we have at the front desk that says something about needing to show ID if you use a credit card. Went on and on about how it's totally fair to ask for ID blah blah blah. Another co-worker asked him who he voted for (he was wearing his "I Voted" sticker) and he just said "Who do you THINK!"
So they started talking about their particularly horrible brand of political thought. They soon asked me. I lied and said I forgot to register after I moved this past June. Then I asked "Who do you think is going to win."
"Romney by a land slide!"
So I asked if he would bet on it, totally forgetting its against their religion and he said that if he could he would. Now I wish I had pressed the point. Could have made a couple hundred bucks!
Indeed as the results trickled in last night I laughed many times thinking about "Andy" and his would be bet.
Anyway fast forward to today (the whole point of this diary) at about Noon Andy came in with our check stubs and reports for the boss. Only this time (again unprovoked) he started ranting and raving about how taxes are going to sky rocket and everyone is going to revolt and Obama be the last Democratic President.
I was way in the back of the office when all of this happened so I only heard it echoing down the halls and to have my co workers recap the parts I missed. They all thought it was righteous of course. I thought he sounded like a mad man. But just faked concern over his well being.
Anyway just wanted to add that. Thanks for all the recs guys!
