So we won, and we won big. Great! America just saved itself decades of pain.
I think demographics will favor us moving forward, and the GOP winning presidential races has become that much tougher. However, we cannot rely on demographics to carry us alone. Sure, the old angry white people are being replaced by more young liberals with each election cycle, but a cornered animal is dangerous and they can still cause great damage to America if we don't oppose them at every turn.
We must begin planning our strategy for the 2014 midterm elections now to confront the Teabaggers so they don't sabotage the final quarter of Obama's presidential career and poison the American public's perception of the next Democratic presidential nominee. How will we get our coalition to show up at the polls and not sit the next election out? How do you get the infrequent voters - the young, the minorities - to show up enthusiastically when President Obama isn't on the ballot?
We know these facts to be true:
* There are more of us than there are of them
* They are fueled by liquid evil hatred and always show up and vote
* When we get mad and show up, we crush them (2006, 2008, 2012)
* When we get complacent and apathetic and don't show up, they win by default (2010)
Some ideas on how we can confront them and defend our turf, or God willing, expand it:
* I think Obama's campaign calculated that the 2012 election would be a far tougher and more important fight than helping out in 2010, so they kept their powder dry until then. Whether that's true or not, Obama is no longer concerned about reelection. Organizing for America should be his everlasting gift to the Democratic Party; it's time to put it to use for 2014 in full force.
* Obama needs to campaign hard on behalf of Democrats everywhere - not only in national races but also in the state and local areas. Deliver a consistent message saying that electing Democrats helps the President and supports his agenda. Democrats are Obama's ammunition. Voting a straight ticket for your local Democrats is a vote for Obama.
* Democrats need to emphasize and attack the Republicans in Congress relentlessly. Pin all the nation's woes upon them. They are the reason you suffer. They must be defeated for America to prosper.
* Resurrect Dean's 50 state strategy: challenge the bastards on their own turf, even if it means getting Blue Dog Democrats to challenge Republicans in deep red states. We may not like them as much and they might vote against us from time to time, but Republicans are the far worse alternative. Never forget the motto: More Democrats, Better Democrats.
* Encourage the big liberal donors to get involved. Hollywood, Soros et. al need to open their pocketbooks for the midterms, for as long as Citizens United isn't overturned by a constitutional amendment, the Republican sugar daddies sure will pay up.
