More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Here's the latest (3+ / 0-)
Challenger Dr. Raul Ruiz surged ahead in his race for the 36th Congressional District in the latest tally released Friday evening.

He now leads by 7,268 votes over the incumbent Rep. Mary Bono Mack.

    Ruiz has 94,633 votes (52%) to her 87,365 (48%).

The Republican incumbent flew out of Palm Springs on Friday afternoon amid a national report she had conceded.

The Riverside County Registrar of Voters has now counted 559,089 votes countywide since polls closed late Tuesday.

It still has about 123,000 ballots to count — or about 18 percent of the vote. The uncounted ballots are 49,500 of vote-by-mail ballots left to count, as well as 60,000 provisional and 13,500 damaged ones.

The registrar has not been able to say how many of those votes could count toward the Congressional race.

The next update will be released at 6 p.m. Saturday.

      Mary --
Just an hour ago, new vote totals were released which show us ahead by over 7,000 votes, leading 52%-48%.

Today, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack called me to concede the race for the 36th Congressional District. I thanked Mary for her dedicated public service to our community and talked with her about working together for the benefit of our community moving forward.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this victory possible. It would not have been possible without you. When I chose to start this campaign over a year ago, my decision was based on my life's mission: to serve the community. With your help, and the help of thousands of other supporters, we can move on to the hard work ahead.

I'm honored to go to Washington and represent the entire district - including supporters of Congresswoman Bono Mack. If you have a good idea - Democrat or Republican - I want to hear it. This is one of the most important lessons I have learned throughout my life, and this campaign - that we achieve more through conversation than confrontation.

By working together, we show the beauty of America.

Thank you! I can't wait to get to work.

Rep. Mary Bono Mack has just issued a statement conceding the 36th Congressional race to Democrat Raul Ruiz, essentially admitting that her 14-year legislative career had come to an end.

The call to Ruiz came hours before the latest round of election results, which showed Ruiz continued to surge ahead of Bono Mack and now leads by nearly 7,300 votes.

Thank you for giving me the distinct honor of serving in the United States House of Representatives for 14 years. Today, I called Dr. Ruiz and congratulated him on his impressive victory,” Bono Mack wrote on her Facebook page. “ Dr. Ruiz will do a fine job if he is guided as well by the people of the congressional district as I was. Please give him the opportunity to succeed.
  •  Now Bono Mack and Connie Mack can live together (4+ / 0-)

Riverside County is very good at conducting their elections.  They routinely do an excellent job and have been leaders in California elections.

And I don't know why you're freaking out over the CA-36 race.  Raul Ruiz has won.  It was clear on Wednesday morning.  It was projected by the AP and all major newsnetworks on Wednesday afternoon and Mary Bono (on top of things till the very end) conceded today.  The results will be whatever they'll be.

I suggest you wait until the certification is and stop wigging out about the final results.

Dunsmore was hounded out of office for unprofessional conduct in delays in vote counts lasting years. No other county continues to have this problem.

The County needs to revamp the office.
