Seriously, there's nothing more entertaining than tuning into the American Conservative Union's CPAC Conference in a year after which the right has just been the victim of an electoral schlacking. I can't wait to see all the wound-licking, lip-service soul-searching and doubling-down on the very ideas that made losers of them in the first place. It'll be great!
I went to their site to see what topics they had scheduled for their upcoming event on March 15-16, 2013, only to discover that, wisely perhaps, they had not posted them yet. So I decided to check out some of the topics they covered LAST year when they were pretty damn confident they were going to turn that Marxist/Kenyan/socialist and his administration out on their collective ear.
So what were some of those topics as seen in the light of last Tuesday's results?
Taking Back Wall Street: The Tea Party vs. Occupy Wall Street – Marriott Ballroom
I find this one rather interesting, since we were told initially that the Tea Party was originally formed partly out of anger over the government-sponsored bailouts of the financial sector. Now, here we have the TP siding
with the financial sector and
against an organization that was actually doing what the TP said it wanted to do before it was commandeered by the likes of Dick Armey and the Koch Brothers.
But, beyond that, looking at this year's election results, who can deny that Wall Street, which threw its financial support almost entirely behind Romney, is the one who had its ass handed to it? OWS for the win.
Engaging America Through Conservative Pop Culture – Marshall Ballroom*
Bruce Springsteen vs. Ted Nugent - 'nuff said.
GOTV: Creating a Winning Ground Game – Wilson A
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
The Phony Divide Between Fiscal & Social Conservatives: Protecting Marriage as a Case Study
– Marriott Ballroom*
Phyllis Schlafly, Founder, Eagle Forum
For the first time ever, three states - Maryland, Washington and Maine - passed initiatives making or keeping gay marriage legal in those states! Woot!
Tea Party Patriots: The Second American Revolution – Conservative Book Nook
That one speaks for itself.
Will the 2012 Elections Be Tainted by Voter Fraud? – Marshall Ballroom
This one is pure projection, since it was, of course, the REPUBLICANS who engaged in massive voter suppression.
Immigration - High Fences, Wide Gates: States vs. the Feds, the Rule of Law & American Identity
– Marriott Ballroom*
Considering that Obama got around 70% of the Hispanic vote, you might want to rethink that whole "high fences" thing.
Obamacare: Why It’s Unconstitutional And What Conservatives Need to Do– Marriot Ballroom*
Oops, I guess John Roberts missed that seminar.
The CPAC All-Star Panel - What to Expect in 2012 – Marriott Ballroom
Wanna bet that "all-star" panel got everything wrong?
Frankly, it's worth checking out the site just to see the organizers refer to their speakers as the honorable Rick Santorum, the honorable Steve King, the honorable Allen West and the honorable Michele Bachmann. It's a case-study in the art of the oxymoron.
I eagerly await their next meet-up.
