More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Don't forget that at age 34, two years before his first election and two decades before he would run for governor of Virginia, Bob McDonnell submitted a master's thesis to the evangelical school he was attending in Virginia Beach in which he described working women and feminists as "detrimental" to the family.  He said government policy should favor married couples over "cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators." He described as "illogical" a 1972 Supreme Court decision legalizing the use of contraception by unmarried couples.

While governor, McDonnell has seemed to be more reasonable on social issues because he has his own state AG Ken Cuccinelli to do his dirty work.  But he is a wolf in sheep's clothing.  His thesis describes his real views, which would have been implemented in policy if Romney had won the election.

Is that school even accredited? Is he an actual attorney?

(Granted, he plays a minor role in this paragraph, but it is a vital role!  During a fictitious Rick Perry rally:)

"...I spaced out as my mind was spinning into nausea, when he switched to the joys of shooting coyotes with a sidearm, and I suddenly imagined him in pin-striped business attire, but festooned like a NASCAR jumpsuit, emblazoned with the Stars n’ Bars and the patches and logos of all of his lobbyists and moneymen.  He would have the colors of his Big Beef and Agro boys, and the NRA, on his back; Marlboro RJRs on his broad-as-Texas shoulders; AstraZeneca on his gut; a Chevron chevron centered on his chest like Superman; BP on his ass; and a big Exxon-Mobil patch right over his heart.  Some of these guys would reserve the heart area for the highest bidder - a prime location for sale.  Others might value the groin spot a bit more, reserved for big pharma:  a giant Viagra logo right over the bought-and-sold balls, which they once owned, so long ago.

After the rally, I visualized Governor Perry at the wheel of his Toyota pickup, disappearing in a cloud of dust, a glorious sunset ahead; Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell riding shotgun, fingering the twin barrels between his legs.  Both garbed in quilted bright orange and cammo hats.  Whoopin’ it up:  The rugged open road west in front, gun rack behind, bull balls hangin’ from the bumper, and a transvaginal ultrasound wand swingin’ every-which-way-but-gaily from the rearview.
    ..."

remember the confederate history month fiasco?  Wherein he gives a speech glorifying the confederacy and remembering the civil war but didn't mention the word "slavery" - like it was a non issue.

he is an idiot.  What did he think was going to happen?
Same with the transvaginal issue - he thought that was going to pass?

Yes good ole VA used to be redneck and right wing but not so much anymore.

  •  Thank you for this diary. What I cannot get over (0+ / 0-)

is that he, like Romney, is so conventionally 'handsome' and looks a 'leader' from Central Casting.

I also cannot get over the fact that he was elected governor of Virginia because friends in Virginia said the voters would never be so stupid.

Can one get elected simply by looking the part and making soothing noises that enough voters respond to?

Meanwhile, if working mothers are so bad for families and if children need both parents....WHY ARE WE SENDING PARENTS TO WAR when there are plenty of single people available?
