We've seen some interesting maps recently of the U.S.'s voting patterns in this year's election adjusted for statewide population density, but this one posted by Chris Howard on Facebook keeps the actual size of the U.S. in normal perspective and adjusts for population density by county based on color shading.
As you can see, there are few counties in the U.S. that are bright red, meaning that Republican dominance is largely in rural areas, with most counties in the U.S. either bright blue or decidedly purple. If Congressional districts were ever un-gerrymandered to follow county lines more naturally, what a different House of Representatives we would have right now...
