Among the 500 rockets Hamas launched into Israel, the most unfathomable are those aimed at Jerusalem. Jerusalem, called the navel of the world and holy to three religions, became a target for Hamas belligerency. It wasn't bad enough that Hamas rockets are indiscriminate, just as likely to fall on civilian targets as military (actually more so), but there are no military installations in Jerusalem.
What's that you say, Israel is responsible for civilian casualties in their response to the Hamas rockets? True, the major, critical difference is that Israel attacks military targets which Hamas locates in civilian areas while Hamas makes no pretense at trying to avoid civilians with their rockets. Back to Jerusalem.
What is puzzling is that Jerusalem is the home of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam's third holiest site. Hamas rockets launched at Jerusalem have an equal chance of striking the Al-Aqsa Mosque as any of the sites holy to Christianity and Judaism. What was Hamas thinking when it chose Jerusalem as a target? Why was there so little regard for what the world holds sacred? For that matter, what did Hamas hope to accomplish when it launched 500 rockets at Israel?
More questions than answers, but peace between Israel and the Palestinians is the ultimate victim.
