But I am. Seriously. And dammit, I'm gonna gush over it for a few...
Daily Kos as done more for me than I ever would've guessed when I joined three years and seven eight days ago. See, I'm not so good with people face-to-face. I used to be better, but now, not so much. I can communicate here in a way I only wish I could with real people standing in front of me. Mild personality disorder? Maybe. But, at least I can be an internet tough guy interactive participant.
Let's break it down a little for posterity, shall we?
- Reality Maintenance. Daily Kos sifts through the bullshit so you don't have to. I trust Daily Kos to tell it like it is, minus the spin, minus the media narrative. A bit Democratic Party-ish? Of course, because I'm a Democrat. One who just so happens to prefer reality, even when that reality ain't so great. Through thick and thin, and all that. I'm confident you won't find RedStaters enjoying the same attention to facts.
- Election Therapy. You're not alone. Others are freaking-out too. Talking with like-minded people, while perusing reality-based data, acts like a sedative.
- Medicinal Laughing. Some of the funniest shit I have ever encountered from anyone, meatspace or otherwise, has been while screwing around at Daily Kos. DK5 request: hotlist just for comments.
- Brain Enhancement Technology. You'll leave smarter than when you arrived. I learn something new every time I visit this site. From an entire diary on an exotic subject, to a factoid or new insight from a comment, this place oozes intelligence.
- Action Alert Network. I need a fire lit under my ass sometimes. The awareness, and results, this place helps to produce blows my mind.
- Diary Transcription Mechanism. Can't forget that, now can I? I like to write, and have recently started increasing my diary-writing after having overcome an initial period of hesitancy. I hope to improve, and, even though it's the home of a sometimes tough audience, Daily Kos at least makes it possible.
And that's just off the top of my head.
Some say it's easy to forget there are real people behind those words in comments and diaries. I'm proud to say I don't have that problem. Maybe it's the same lens through which I hope to be seen by others that makes it a bit easier for me to see them.
So thanks Markos, front-pagers, tech team, fussy servers, and, not least, community, for all you have done.
For me, it's been alot.
Happy Thanksgiving
3:15 AM PT: My eyes are closing involuntarily. I'll be back when the sun comes out, to check in.
