It's the time of year when we gather around friends and family to give thanks. Progressives have a lot to be thankful for this year. The reelection of President Obama and a wave of newly elected progressive candidates unpacking in D.C. are high on the list. But, for us here at Daily Kos, we'd like to raise a toast to you. Yes, you.
Each and every one of you make this community special. There are plenty of news sites on the web, but there is only one Daily Kos community. Your stories, discussions and determined activism set us apart. Together, we are making a difference. We see it every day in the actions you take—donating, door-knocking, emailing, phone-banking, petitioning and sharing.
(Continue below the fold.)
It's the sharing part I want to focus on today. Our community is growing, in large part because of the content you create. Great content is widely shared on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and reddit, thus helping to grow this community and our ability to truly make a difference. There are some people who've really stood out in 2012 and we'd like to take a minute to recognize them. In no particular order, a handful of the folks who've topped the social media charts this year:
Brainwrap and his GOP Rape Advisory Chart.
BruinKid for pulling together his always awesome wrap-ups of The Daily Show (with video and transcripts), including the widely shared Jon Stewart mocks Fox News's Bulls#!t Mountain meltdown.
The Troubadour, who seems to always have his finger on the pulse of the news, with diaries like AMAZING: Occupy Wall Street Leading Massive, Volunteer-Powered Recovery Efforts in New York.
Richard Myers for his excellent ongoing series about the Downfall of Rush Limbaugh (and how he's dragging radio networks down with him).
Hungrycoyote caught my eye. She's been bringing it strong this year with diaries like Rachel Maddow: "The most persistent [Republican] myth in the modern politics of American money."
ThatPoshGirl may not be able to cook, but she knows how to fight back against the fast food industry.
Scarce brought us the highlights of the Elizabeth Warren vs Scott Brown debates.
HoundDog brought us a A Devastating Expose of Mitt Romney's Mistreatment of Mormon Women Emerges and helped us understand the culture of the Mittbot.
Finally, a special tip of the hat to community standouts teacherken, for sharing his thoughts on education and D.C. politics, and to navajo (aka Neeta Lind) and our community organizers, for coordinating Kossack meet-ups all over the country.
We could go on for days. This truly is the tip of the big orange iceberg and I know there are many more who deserve credit. If there is a Kossack you enjoy reading, please give thanks and let them know in the comments below. Each and every one of you brings something great to the site (yes, even you lurkers out there). Every like, share, recommend, tweet and link is having a huge impact on growing our community. So, from all of us, to all of you, thank you.
