I've already compiled one general family cookbook (Stewed Monkey Heads and Other Family Favorites), just in time for my son's wedding. That one contains recipes from 5 generations on both sides - mine and his father's.
I've been working on translating more recipes from my side of the family (some of it is on tapes in Kiowa, which is really hard for me since I can't hear clearly), and the rest is written in German. Most of them are meat and sides, although my grandfather was really big on pastries and bread.
But what my children most want from me are my snack food recipes, especially my soft pretzels, portabella chips, jerkies, cookies, and copycat recipes like Fritos, Twinkies, Saltines, Thin Mints, Oreos, Fig Newtons, Cheetos, Violet Crumbles, Ritz crackers, pork rinds, Pop tarts, Hot Pockets, Moon Pies, Cracker Jacks, Cheez-Its, tater Tots, and animal crackers.
So guess what I'm doing for Cookie Day?
Yep, trying to get together a collection of those snack recipes to give my children by Cookie Day, which is December 12.
That's 2 weeks away.
They'll get them on flash drives because there's no way I can get them printed in time. They can have print copies for their Tax Day gifts.
