The air had grown cold.
The economy was bleak for the
young and the old.
- except for dear reader -
the Deficit Scold.
They came in the night.
Swift and fierce as the wind.
To say - cut now and cut steep
or the world shall end.
What advice they did give.
Was riddled in lore.
To destroy social security
and the safety net for the poor.
To cut food stamps is easy!
They can do without! Medicare is far
to bloated - I don't know what the fuss is
To the Scold it comes natural.
Those stated replies.
For none of these cuts will
ever affect their lives.
We must ignore the past
It is not 1936 - austerity
for all - Keynesian philosophy
you must rethink!
Their lies spin like magic
We adopt their own twists.
To think that our newly elected president
believes he is going off a fiscal cliff?
The progressives must stand strong
Each day and each night
We must let the president know -
We support him when he fights.
Now is not the time for compromise
& forgiveness. We have had
four years of birth certificate madness!
The scolds scowl bright and gain influence
for their plight. They leer and they peddle
tired tropes in veiled disguise.
The American people knows in what
direction austerity lies.
Please sign my petition.
It is not perfect but you have 800 characters to write when I could fill a few thousand.
Economic Terrorism, Keynesian Economics, and Deficit Scolds.
Dear President Obama,
You have won reelection and have now decided to pivot the conversation towards Deficit reduction. It is obvious republicans will not compromise so put forth a progressive liberal vision that can be the start of the talks, not soft-negotiation.
We petition you to stop using the non-plan Simpson-Bowles as a starting point. It failed.
We petition you to take Medicare/Social security out of any deficit talks.
We the people petition you to appoint liberals such as Paul Krugman or Joseph Stieglitz to SOT.
We the people petition you to raise capital gains rates.
We the people petition you to raise the top marginal tax bracket to 40%.
We the people want you to govern as a progressive liberal - not a 1996 fiscal conservative.
Hope & Change not Cuts & Pain.
