This tells me something about the GOP base: They got nothin'.
The problem is, they don't know that. They honestly think that they have reality on their side - and that makes them worse than stupid. It makes them dangerous.
Seriously. They got nothin'. When confronted with a counter-example to their stereotype, they just laugh - because they don't know how to handle it. They have no real counter-argument beyond their stereotypes, and those stereotypes don't stand up to reality.
And yet they will continue to operate on the idea that they know the "truth" - whether that "truth" is moochers using food stamps and staying at home instead of working honestly, or women having abortions as birth control, or (for god's sake!) MIND CONTROL of the suffering GOP population by the evil Democrats. They got nothin', but they don't know it.
The thing that drives me crazy is that facts don't convince these people. They don't believe anything except what they're told by Billow, Glen Beck, Limbaugh and Fox News. I don't know how to fix this, but I do know that it's much harder to convince a person that he was tricked than to convince him to believe something ridiculous.
Reading today's Hate-Mail-A-Palooza really drove me nuts. These people have the mentality of a potted plant. Facts don't matter to them; fantasy does. They have the most ridiculous ideas - and they are stupid enough to send them to Kos as hate mail, thinking they'll be taken seriously.
Anyone have any ideas? Is there any way to reach people who cover their ears and sing LOLOLOLOL when confronted with reality? For a little while I hoped there would be. I hoped that the decisive Democratic win last month would smash holes in the GOP bubble worldview, but it doesn't seem to have done that. Instead, they've become even more entrenched in their moochers-destroying-the-country, welfare-queens-everywhere, trickle-down-economics, WalMart-is-King mentality. It's like they think they won the election or something.
People who operate on fantasy instead of reality should have had a rude awakening on November 7th. Instead, they pulled the covers even further over their heads and ignored reality. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?
This is mostly a rant fueled by a caffeine headache, so forgive me for its incoherence. I've just reached my limit of stupid for the week.
Update: Here's the remaining conversation - and it just demonstrates the head-in-sand-ness of the GOP base these days.
Not a response, just a dodge. They got nothin' - and they don't even realize it.
