I came across this blog titled Some Statistics Related to Race and Class in America which is an excellent piece by Jeffrey Perry laying out exactly how terrible inequality is now in America, and the shocking racial dimensions to it. 40 million Americans now live in poverty. An astonishing number of Black children depend on food stamps and school lunches for enough nutrition. 90% of Black children will need food stamps.
And we raise these issues, the Rightwing accuses us of class warfare.
Oh hell, there's plenty of class warfare, but our folks are the victims of it.
It is long past time that we had a serious, strategic discussion about planting the seeds of movement and real offensive class struggle.
Imagine this. In the 30 years that wages have been stagnant and workers' efforts to form unions have been routinely and viciously crushed, there has been an 800% increase in incarceration.
This fight over letting tax cuts for the rich expire versus cuts in life and health for our elders is a proxy for this much bigger reality.
Sisters and brothers, we CANNOT walk away or turn our backs on what is happening on our watch!
