CenTex Kossacks and the San Antonio Kossacks group had a joint meetup yesterday. We picked a spot halfway between the cities (New Braunfels, TX) and had a great time at the old Phoenix Saloon in the heart of NB.

Follow below the fold for photos and more!

In attendance (besides myself and my girlfriend) were Teknohed, JCDufresne and his wife, and ManofFire. Sadly, Blue Armadillo and TexMex were unable to attend.

The Phoenix Saloon is a refurbished old bar in what I'm guessing is downtown New Braunfels. It's a cute city that I think gets overshadowed by the river tubing tourism and the waterpark. According to the bar's website, the original Phoenix was the first bar in Texas to serve women. It served us well as the first group meeting of our kossack groups.

JC from San Antonio told us a little about the state party platform and we discussed what we can do to get more involved in electing more and better dems here in Texas. It was a great little meeting, and I'm thrilled to say we doubled our turnout from the first meeting.

(I am aware that going from 1 extra person to 2 extra people is still small, but let's frame our issues better...we doubled attendance!)

We'll be having our next meeting after the new year somewhere in austin. Hope everyone had a wonderful time. I know I am thrilled to have a small but growing group.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
