Last Friday night I attended a fundraiser to restore music education in Vallejo elementary schools. It was sponsored by two Vallejo community service groups Vallejo Parents Coalition for the Arts and Vallejo Together.
The Vallejo Parents Coalition for the Arts wants to raise funds to bring a "La Sistema" music instruction program to Vallejo elementary schools.
El Sistema is a publicly financed voluntary sector music education program in Venezuela, founded in 1975 by economist and musician José Antonio Abreu under the name of Social Action for Music. For many years its official name was Fundación del Estado para el Sistema Nacional de las Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela, (FESNOJIV), which is sometimes translated into English as "National Network of Youth and Children's Orchestras of Venezuela".

"Music has to be recognized as an agent of social development, in the highest sense because it transmits the highest values - solidarity, harmony, mutual compassion. And it has the ability to unite an entire community, and to express sublime feelings" - Averu's Vision

I enjoyed seeing the young kids above performing. And I'm hoping to use any political capital I have earned working for the Democratic Party in Solano County to further programs such as El Sistema in my community.
Support the Arts,
