her sons shooting at target range. From Slate

The two semiautomatic pisols and .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle Lanza used in the shooting were registered to his mother, whom several witnesses identified as an avid gun collector. She apparently taught her kids how to shoot the guns. The owner of a landscaping business who recently decorated her yard for Christmas tells Reuters she once showed him a “really nice, high-end rifle” that she purchased. “She said she would often go target shooting with her kids.”-- Slate

Dear Mr. President,
Thanks for your tears. I needed to see them. You see, I have 5 boys...

... and i have trouble with this. I cried yesterday. You see, I don't cry much; but I did yesterday. And then.. as expected.. slowly but surely.. the rage came.

Children can spray bullets. Men gut their victims with knives up close. They have to know death, murder, intimately... and live with it.
Guns are easy. Makes death easy.

I have five sons- if this had happened to... I would have been arrested for murder- if I had been lucky enough to reach the m.f.

Mr. President, I know you like to reach across the aisle. I know you admire Lincoln. There is no reaching across the aisle- not with the sick bigots around you.... Guns. You are a president I have fought for- from writing my columns to poll watching- You are a President with a mandate- resoundingly. We have your back- do something about guns or bullets or both:

A Mandate. A Mandate that involves the murder of the innocent, the murder of our children.

When is a good time to take this on??? NOW

A madman in China stabbed 22 children. None died. and guns?

Well, after today, and being the old Southern fuck that I am- pony up dude. Whether it be the NRA or wall street or boner or women's rights or gay marriage- i don't really give a damn cause Mr. President- I am in a state of rage.

Your pathetic traitorous opponents cannot be reasoned with... on any issue. Fox wants you gone. Rush wants you gone. We are at war here. Please get a clue my leader- they want to destroy this country and have already stared with the middle class, i.e. us.

This is an opportunity to take the oppressors by the balls. And they are our oppressors.
And as of today -with piles of 5 year old bodies in a class room in Connecticut, like a mistaken  drone attack in Pakistan- ouch...yea...ouch.
Stop this madness - recognize the war
Pony up-
recognize your mandate- take no prisoners
go for it
pony up
and start with the NRA
we got your back brother...our President

from- one tired writer father citizen mother fucker

1:17 PM PT: Not that it is much- but in addition to raising 5 sons in gun culture, I worked in an ER with gunshot victims when younger, carried guns for protection closing bizes late at night ( I subsequently stopped), was almost accidentally shot by mistaken discharged fr one of our own guns, and one of my adult sons is an avid gun collector. This pales to those in the armed forces or law enforcement. And i am strongly anti-gun.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:

    •  Maybe she herself was mentally ill. Maybe (0+ / 0-)

she had no business owning any weapons. The kid was not able to buy a weapon because of a waiting period. Not a background check. But his inability to buy guns did not stop him from shooting up the school. He got them anyway. The laws on guns have been weakened. But even if they were stronger it probably still would have happened.

We do not have any real picture of this kid or his mom. Why was she stockpiling weapons? Was she worried about the President? How much right wing media has been devoted to scaring people about the President especially concerning weapons. I may be for restrictive gun control but the President certainly has not been for strong gun control either on the campaign trail or as President. So is there complicity in the right wing media and the NRA and the right wing blowhards? Did a few articles on WND or Newsmax convince either of these two that they needed their weapons?

    •  Yet we can already blame her, can't we (0+ / 0-)

because she was a woman and a kindergarten teacher and a mother, a person who enjoyed a hobby she loved enough to share it with her children, and none of that matters, because she was a gun owner and guns are evil.  Guns are in and of themselves so evil that just saying people have a Constitutionally-protected right to own them makes a person evil.

So we can assume this woman did evil things like teach her children about firearms and show them how to shoot them and not properly secure those evil firearms from a mentally-disturbed person by just getting rid of all her guns because she had a mentally-troubled son.
See? It's easy. Get rid of all the guns, and there's no more violence.

      That's today's mantra.

That troubled son couldn't kill his mother with a knife or bow and arrow (there's a movie about a kid who took a bow and arrow and massacred a school, did y'all know?) or a baseball bat or a skillet or a rock or a piece of firewood. That troubled son couldn't mix up a truckload of ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel or open the valve on a $40 bbq-grill gas tank, light a match, and blow up a cafe or a federal building or a school. And even if he did, it would be less violence done with guns, so that would make his crimes a better class of murder, or something....

But this woman had privately-owned firearms, property she bought legally and used legally and possessed legally, in her home, in accord with the law. Worse still, she used them! She showed them off to people! Why, she even took them to firing ranges! She was so influenced by the evil that is guns that she taught her sons to shoot!
Not only can we blame her, we already do.

I was not calling you out. I was saying that we, collectively, have already started blaming a dead woman for this tragedy because "she had guns."

  •  I'm not thrilled with the "men gut their victims (0+ / 0-)

    up close" meme.

We know very little about the lives of the mother and son, and are unlikely to be told much. But the fact that the mother had a cache of (expensive) weapons is relevant, since some of them were used in the shooting.

So much for the belief that guns make you safer.

Her son shot the children at close range w/ one of her 5 weapons.  The Chief Medical Examiner said the 7 children he autopsied had each been shot 3-ll times.

This mother's son inflicted terror, fear & death during his horrendous rampage.  He shot his own mother in the face.

She raised an angry nut.  Who knows what conversations went on in that home.  The end product was devastating & evil.

      the Doomsday Preppers.

      •  Glamour? Hmmm... (0+ / 0-)

I don't know anybody who can watch that show and feel that it's glamorous.

The one thing that all those preppers, who have totally different conflicting ideas of what is going to bring on Armageddon, have in common is that they all prep for it in basically the same way -- by collecting guns, boarding up the house, and collecting canned goods.  Even when it's the least appropriate strategy for the doomsday scenario they envision, like nuclear fallout from a bomb blast.  (The best doomsday plan is  a packed suitcase and a full tank of gas.)  It seems to reflect some crazy society-wide paranoia about the neighbors coming to root you out of your house and take your valuable stuff, like, your canned fucking green beans.

I commented on another forum, it's like the story of the three little pigs, except when the first two pigs come running to the brick house, the third little piggy shoots them dead from an upstairs window to protect his canned goods.

  •  How about fewer guns & more police? (0+ / 0-)

That is the only solution in the end to this mess that we have gotten into.   Sounds like we need professionals to guard our schools and malls.   At the same time work on reducing the amount of guns out there.
