We need to get to them, let them know that if they do not support the banning of assault weapons and large clips, if they do not support reasonable gun control we will go after them in the 2014 elections. Even if we just primary them we'll be forcing them to spend money they don't want to use for a primary.  Take this fight directly to them and to the NRA, we need the Brady Group to work on this and to step up the fight for a total an complete ban on assault weapons and large clips and resonable gun control.

This applied to State Legislatures as well.  Gov Snyder of Michigan is set to sign a bill that will allow concealed guns in schools, places of worship, etc.  There are other reasons besides this that we want to defeat him in 2014, but we need to ensure that he does not sign this bill.  We also need State Legislatures to repeal any laws they currently have on the books that make it legal to carry concealed weapons.  Additionally, we need a repeal of the "Stand Your Ground" laws that have lead to several murders, including 2 recently in Florida.

The time is now.  In fact, it is past the time, but we must not let the murders of these children and teachers be in vain.  We must fight in their memory so that no family will have to go through what 26 families in Newtown Ct are suffereing through now.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

About 4 PM this afternoon.  I knew I had to go out for a few hours so put it through so that it would post at 9PM. I was going to work on that list tonight and tomorrow but I see that it's already been posted and can be found on Open Secrets.  I just looked at the list and there are many House and Senate members who received between $1,000 and $2,000 from the NRA.  If the pitance of these contributions has led you to sell your vote to the devil NRA, well you're not worthy to represent us in Congress.  I also see that some on the list have lost their elections and gladly will not be returning to Congress in January.

    our support.

I made a pledge on Friday that I intend to keep:

    NOT ANOTHER DIME

Image how powerful this message could be if it came from every one of us.

Find how much NRA money your favorite politicians have accepted here.

The only entitlement that needs reforming is the inbred belief of the 0.1% that they are entitled to 99.9% of the wealth and 100% of the power.

Some of these scum bags sold their souls to the NRA for between $1,000 and $2,000 some even less and others much more along with some for even less than $1,000.

So, Bill and Brian, and Kathleen (D-NY):

It's very simple, give the money back, by Friday, and all is forgiven.

Go without fancy lunches for a month. Kathleen, it might eat into your wardrobe money a tad, but since I shop at a goodwill store for mine, i'm sure you can do without a few things without even missing a beat.

have to admit tho, the rest are republicans so at least the Dems weren't quite as bad.

        Thanks for the link!

  •  Assault weapons ban (1+ / 0-)

will hardly make a dent. It's a false sense of security.

I grew up during a time where there was an assault weapons ban. Guess what? There were still drive by shootings in Bakersfield, gang violence and what not. I remember lots of nights on the local news where at least one person died from gun violence. All kinds of weapons. Assault, hand guns, hunting rifles... whatever. Guns are guns. I'm alive because I lived on the 'good' side of town.

    People get around bans. Period.

The [public] schools I went to had very limited access to the children during instructional hours. You HAVE to go through the main office clerks. They don't take stuff lying down either and there are procedures in place in case someone decides it was okay to bring a gun to school. We had lockdown drills where there would be a school-wide announcement and the teachers would lock the classroom doors.

Sadly, guns would still take out the main office clerks... and security patrol... and if they manage to get a school-wide PA announcement out, then the teachers would lock the door to their classrooms and calmly tell all of us to hide under the desks.

My high school classroom's windows were close to the ceiling so you can't just shoot the windows and jolly proceed to massacre the people inside.

All of the schools had fences around the yard. Pretty easy to climb those. So much for needing to go through the front office.

Why hello there reality, how are you doing?

    •  Insane. Schools are supposed (0+ / 0-)

to be places of learning, not fortresses and battlegrounds.

But insanity never stopped the gun lobby.  They love this because through fear they will probably sell more guns.  They are callous experts at this.

  •  Where does the NRA get its money from? (1+ / 0-)

The NRA is not allowed to print its own money.  Not yet, at least.

    •  Probably from Dues (0+ / 0-)

      From their members.
