I am in favor of responsible gun ownership in this country. I believe that people have the right to go hunting as a hobby and that people also have the right to protect themselves. However, I do not believe that people should have the right to own weapons that are used on the battlefields that have extended magazines and are used for the sole purpose of killing people.
I don't believe in the notion that Hollywood or the gaming industry have been responsible for these tragedies, but I do believe that the entertainment industry has played a in "pimping" these weapons. If we want to go after the gun culture that Bob Costas called out a couple of weeks ago on national television, then we are going to have to take direct action because we know the action taken by the government will be futile. In my opinion, I believe that we need to start somewhere, and that start should be the cable television networks that have been pimping these weapons as if they were tobacco dealers in the 1950's.
It's time to go after the History Channel, the Discovery Channel and National Geographic for their role in glorifying gun usage with their shows such as: Doomsday Preppers, Sons of Guns, American Guns, Most Extreme Shot and so on.
There have been successful campaigns against media advertisers in the past, and why can't this be a successful tactic. Please give your insights.
